On Saturday, November 3, 2018, 23 potato hungry PAX willingly motivated not only themselves but others (Welcome Gaga!) to attend Tater Tot’s VQ alongside Wait Time’s positive energy and support. These carb munching, non-fart sacks got out of bed early in the gloom in a 42 degree steady drizzle to taste what was hot out of the oven… The theme, “Queen of the Mountain” was inspired by the Nov., 2 movie release of “Bohemian Rhapsody”, a foot-stomping celebration of the band Queen which was rocking (well, whenever mother nature didn’t interfere….) throughout the training toward Friendship Summit. This soggy beatdown left no man behind!
The PAX: Roll Bar, Compost, CSI, Cyclone, Waffle House, Honey-Stinger, The Plague, Wait Time, Brazilian, Specimen, Reba, Tonight Show, The Big One, Thunderhead, Room Service, Vandalay, Placebo, No Doze, Low Man, Selleck, Gaga, Dufresne, Tater Tot
QIC: Tater Tot
WARM-A-RAMA: Mosey to the driest and most halfway lit area Tater Tot could find…..
Flamingo Arm Circles
Windmills
Tappy Taps
Imperial Walkers
21’s – These mental Side Straddle Hops started in a 5-countcadence (6-21 in head), finishing in a silent semi-rhythmic slap of the hips. The PAX were rewarded with only having to complete 5 of the 10 potential burpees proposed for their attention to detail.
TRAINING CAMP for “Queen of the Mountain”: Mosey to the Music Hall
Circle Merkins X2 – 5 Merkins on the down, 5 Mountain Climbers in cadence, 5 Merkins, 5 Shoulder Taps, 5 Merkins, 5 Mountain Climbers, 5 Merkins, 5 Shoulder Taps
Partner Air Squats – The intent was to hold an air squat back-to-back with a partner doing two minutes of feet stomps to the playing of “We Will Rock You”…... The result was another music fopae which led to an audible resulting in a beautiful impromptu chorus of “We will, we will rock you” until of course the music kicked in and we finished strong.
The Broken Elevator – Staying in partners, PAX alternatedclimbing steps and crushing burpees starting with one and adding one to each round reaching the height of their desire. Watching your step was important as light was at a minimum. (The Q felt it was the best interest of the group to turn the music off and just concentrate on the beatdown until OMAHA was called)
BASE CAMP: Slow mosey to the bottom of the mountain
Final Training for the Summit – PAX engaged in a 15-minutemusical rotation of 20-yard Bear Crawls, Lunges and Jump Squats followed by a 50-yard jog to be greeted by 10 Merkins. This rinse and repeat training proved to be a true test of mental toughness and verbal encouragement in order to prepare for our final ascend to the top of the Friendship Summit.
Queen of the Mountain – After a much needed OMAHA call the PAX were organized to mentally prepare for the final push to the top. Leaving no man behind, these brave men gave their best effort to finish strong, sprinting an inclined 200 yard “mental mountain” filled with cheers and positive reinforcement to the playing of Under Pressure (which actually played….).
6 MINUTES OF MARY
LBC’S – 15 in cadence
Heel Touches – 15 in cadence
LBC’s – 7 in cadence
Heel Touches – 8 in cadence
American Hammer – One by Tater Tot
Bicycle Race – A human bike ride would finish off the quest by the 90 second playing of Queen’s “Bicycle Race”. PAX’s did bicycle kicks during any reference to the word bike. They did their best to hold at 45 degrees during bike reference pauses and finished when the bike bell ching changed. It couldn’t come soon enough…..
CIRCLE OF TRUST
After a Count-a-Rama and Name-a-Rama of the 23 PAX we had the pleasure of naming our solo FNG. This former Nebraska football stud was more than just a jock but apparently has some karaoke pipes. We gave a very warm welcome to our newest member, Gaga.
In honor of Folsom’s Woodshed VQ the previous day and meaningful thoughts on the importance of F3 to him, it resounded loud and clear in me that the friendships I have been introduced to and build upon helped inspire and get me through my VQ. For those that have Q’d previously, kudos to you as you make it look effortless and it is far from that. It takes preparation, creativity and thoughtfulness as you want to put your best foot forward to those that are taking the time out of their morning to try and get better, be better. I have asked myself often why F3 has been so powerful to my life and it has become so obvious. I am surround by people that I truly call my friends and what more could you ask for?..
I was fortunate enough to find a reading from “The Language of Friendship” that helped sum up what F3 exemplifies as it pertains to Friendship and perhaps it speaks a little to you as well.
True Friendship Has Many Ingredients – “True friendship isn’t seen with the eyes; it’s felt with the heart when there is trust, understanding, secrets, loyalty, and sharing. Friendship is a feeling rarely found in life, but when it is found it has a profound impact on one’s well-being, strength, and character. A true friendship does not need elaborate gifts or spectacular events in order to be valuable or valued. To ensure long-lasting quality and satisfaction, a friendship only needs certain key ingredients: undying loyalty, unmatched understanding, unsurpassed trust, deep and soulful secrets, and endless sharing. These ingredients, mixed with personality and a sense of humor can make a friendship last a lifetime”
I was honored to lead you this day. Until next time gentlemen!
