4:45 am Pre Run: Fun Dip, Double Dip, Boss Hog, Invictus, Swiper

5:15 am – I set up the one cone by the dance studio.  I pulled up and the Tesla was already there.  Other cars started to roll in.   Invictus show up for the Spotted Cow that I bought him in Wisconsin last weekend and that’s when I released I forgot to put it in my truck!  Damn!  That would fuel a faster pre run, as my stress and anger jumped.  We ran the traditional pre run route which I always forget all the turns.  Invictus would later comment that he set a lot of pre run PRs this run.  Good pace.  As we exited the lake, G-String was OYOBNA trying to find us.  We ran back up the hill and pax started piling in.

Levy mentioned he and Dozer brought an FNG.  Awesome.

I kicked off the workout and welcomed the Pax to F3 – Fitness, Fellowship and Faith.  I asked if we had an new guys, FNGs, at our workout….The new guy said yes.  I asked him what his name was, “Kyle”……about 3 seconds later I heard Double Dip mumble something and a few guys laughed, I have no idea what he said, let’s move on – I reminding them of the mission to Plant, Serve and Grow small workout groups for the Re-invigoration of male community leadership.

Then I covered the 5 core principles of F3.  1) Open to ALL men. 2.  Always Free.  3) Always held outdoors, 4) Lead in a rotating fashion and 5) Ends with a Circle of Trust (COT).

I then mentioned our Credo: Leave no man behind, but leave no man where you found him.  If you come to my workouts, I like to move and I like to surpass 2 miles, so we always pick up the six!  I ended with a reminder to the PAX that I am not a professional.  Modify as necessary.  Workouts are all a suggestion.  From this point forward there is a real risk of injury.

I counted us off and and we had an odd number, I would go solo, but I asked the Pax to partner up.  I told Kyle to stick with Dozer or Levy.  I told them they would only need one coupon (Cinderblock) per Pax.  We partnered up, grabbed one coupon per group and headed out.   I told the Pax it would be up to them who carries the coupon and for how long and they can swap out at their leisure.

5:17 am  Warm-a-rama

We headed South toward 370.  I led them over the grass and headed  towards the Talus parking lot to warm up.  But in my recon, I planned to go to the next parking lot, so we kept going West to the Sampson Contruction parking lot.  We did the following exercises:

  • 10 Tappy Taps IC
  • 10 Tater Taps IC
  • 10 Toy Soldiers
  • We would then spread out the coupons and jump over them going right to left and then shuffle left to right and back to the beginning.  We would then FlapJack and go opposite.  Each way for about a minute.

5:25 am Pre Thang – Bridge Work

  • 20 Derkins
  • 20 Partner Plank Squats – We did this with one partner planking on the Bridge handles, with their legs on the shoulders of the other Pax, while the that Pax does 20 Squats.  They proved fun and goofy.  Flapjack.
  • 20 Coupon Handoffs IC
  • 20 Coupon Handoff Twists
  • Cross Street – one partner broad jump, one rifle carry coupon and lunge
  • We were running out of times, so we skipped the derkins and squats, but we did:
  • 20 more Coupon Handoffs IC
  • 20 Coupon Handoff Twists

Alright – I looked at my watch – one more stop – let’s mosey…..We ran down to the dance studio.  For Kyle and other new Pax that don’t go to Coffeteria, I said, see that Kum&Go, about a block away, that is where we get coffee afterwards!

5:42 am The Thang – Dance Studio

Two Partners would grind through the following exercises:

  • 50 Coupon Kisses
  • 100 Blockees
  • 150 Shoulder Presses
  • 200 Coupon Curls
  • 250 Coupon Big Boys

One partner would work through the exercises while the other sprints a loop, stopping to do 20 Maverick Merkins on the railing and then switching with its partner.  We did this for about 7-8 minutes and I called Omaha and we we headed back.

The coupons started getting heavier.  Just about as I was wishing I had a partner, Double Dip asked if he could carry my coupon a little bit.  The beauty of F3 at it’s finest.  This would come full circle in a few minutes.

5:54 am 6MOM

No time, We had an FNG to name.

5:54am The Name-a-rama was completed  – see above for list of those who posted.

So I asked Kyle to enter the circle and tell us about himself.  He said his name was “Kyle Wardell.”  Knobs was smiling and repeated what Double Dip said earlier, “Tenacious D.”  I said keep talking Kyle.  I asked a few question and the group was getting restless.  So I had to admit my own ignorance, “What the heck does Tenacious D mean?”  I got some blank stares and disgusted looks.  “Don’t you know Jack Black’s band?”  uuummmmmm, No……The Pax wanted this name bad.  I didn’t like it, but then I thought about how Double Dip carried my coupon for a block or two and I looked at my new brother Kyle, and said, “Welcome Tenacious D!”  …..I listed to Tribute in the car, and now liked the name.

COT Happy

We were short on time, but I told the boys that recently I was listening to Simon Sinek’s podcast and told the group how much of a great listen he is.  Then I said on a recent episode he was interviewing Richard Harris, a very happy and infection screen writer / director of films like Knotting Hill and Love Actually.

They were talking about joy and happiness and Richard Said something profound that stuck with me.  You can’t be happier than Happy.  If we can find happiness in our life, we should jump on it, grab, enjoy and not let it go.  But we should definitely try to not look beyond it for more, or what is next.  Be content with being happy!

I led us out in prayer.

Aye! Swiper
