11/27/2018 AKSARBEN VILLAGE AO – Cornhusker Handicap

PAX: TC (Respect), Biggie Smalls, Saul, Hootenanny, Honey Stinger, Lowman, Peek-a-Boo, Room Service, Brazilian, Tatertot, No Doze, Bubbles, Borland, Wait Time, Folsom, Walk On, Waffle House (Respect), The Plague, Mayhem

Q: Mayhem (VQ), Lowman

19 PAX (again just missing that elusive TWO-ZERO), braved some chilly single digit temps to get better together at the Cornhusker Handicap. While no FNGs could be lured into the gloom, a few Saturday (7:00am) faithfuls) Room Service and Saul appear from the frozen tundra, fueled by coffee and a desire to see the sun rise for the first time. TClaps to those guys.

After a stern disclaimer, Mayhem led the PAX to warmer quarters in the Pacific Life parking structure for warm-a-rama. To their surprise, and for many their chagrin, Lowman brought up the rear of the Mosey carrying what at first appeared to be a Christmas present but was quickly revealed to be a 38lb coupon. Was there only one? Who could know?

Warm-A-Rama

SSH 15 IC → Imperial Walkers 15 IC → String Rippers 15 IC → Bobby Hurleys 15 → Cherry Pickers 20 IC

Following Lowman’s attempt to warm up the PAX’s cold muscles and fearful hearts, and quick 100 yard sprint, the group’s fears were realized when the once solo coupon joined 8 of it’s closest friends for the Pre-Thang debut of…

“Ladder of Pain”

Mayhem asked the PAX to partner up for the Pre-Thang and described the circuit routine with a coupon discount on comfort.

Set 1: 1 High Knees, 1 Merkin, 1 Air Squat, 1 Bobby Hurley
Seet 2: 2 High Knees, 2 Merkin, 2 Air Squat, 2 Bobby Hurley

Set 10: 10 High Knees, 10 Merkin, 10 Air Squat, 10 Bobby Hurley

Unlike previous ladder circuits, the Ladder of Pain required partners to alternate sets with Coupon Cusacks. This led to significant mumblechatter, but also a heavy dose of encouragement between partners and the PAX at large. Cool to see.

After completing the Pre-Thang and contemplating Lowman’s overzealous Thang, it was decided to reduce 100 count exercises to 50, for the sake of time and for the PAX’s ability to actually do all of the exercises. Good call Wait Time.

Announcements & Prayers

  • Plague reminded the PAX that Wednesday will be the official launch of the Paradise Island AO and Third F to follow at Paradise Bakery.
  • TC reminded that his daughter is involved with Camp Kesem, an organization providing free summer camps for children through and beyond their parent’s cancer care. This coming Tuesday is Giving Tuesday, so any donations made to Camp Kesem would be amazingly appreciated. Her goal is $3,000. Donations can be made at : https://www.facebook.com/CampKesemUNL

Message from Mayhem:

    • After leaving the Military a Marine traveled around the world observing and learning many different forms of hunting techniques
    • While in the jungle he observed a very unique way of catching monkeys (thought to be intelligent animals)
    • The tribesmen would hollow out a tree stump and place a piece of fruit within, and when the monkey would reach in, make a fist to grab the fruit their hand became stuck.
    • Instead of letting go of the fruit they remained trapped until the end and ultimately it was their undoing.

  • The Takeaway: What is the piece of fruit that we hold on to that keeps us trapped? What do we need to “just let go” and escape?

Closing Prayer: The Plague

Full note from TC on his Daughter’s fundraising efforts for Camp Kesem:

Please consider donating to Camp Kesem at UNL this Giving Tuesday. Camp Kesem is a nationwide community, driven by passionate college student leaders, that supports children through and beyond their parent’s cancer.

A program of Kesem, Camp Kesem operates over 100 free summer camps in 40  states for children ages 6 to 18 who have been touched by a parent’s cancer. This camping experience has a lasting impact on children by providing them a peer-support network that understands their unique needs, builds confidence and strengthens their communication skills. In 2018, Camp Kesem served over 8,000 children coast-to-coast – all funded by generous donations from individuals and corporate support.
