Back Blast: Iron Pax Week 4 – Sugar’s Pick Your Poison

Conditions: A calm cool 63 degrees with the stars shining overhead. Perfect for an IPC style down pain-ment.
Warm-o-rama:
WOR was super short this morning as it was imperative the full time was left for Pax to complete week 4 of the challenge. All pax were welcomed, the mission was delivered and especially since there was an FNG, the disclaimer was covered. All pax moseyed to the flashlight lit cones marking the end of 100 yards.
(T-Claps to Jean Claude for helping me run the tape measure for the set up this morning. 300ft is no joke with a 25ft tape measure)
(Side Note: I never knew I would need so many flashlights and cones to light destinations when we opened Wild Kingdom.)
The Thang:
After the return mosey YHC explained the workout titled “Sugar’s Pick Your Poison”.
Repeat for 3 rounds for time:
100 reps of either merkins or squats
200 yard coupon carry
100 reps of either KB swings or Bonnie Blaires
200 yard coupon carry
100 reps of coupon thrusters or traveling lunges
200 yard coupon carry

Uhhh no… Mary consisted of walking the 100 yards to get the lights and cones and walking back.
COT:
There were still a few minutes until the official time, which YHC used to catch his breath…
All month YHC has focused on competition and whether it harms brotherhood. I have been so conflicted by some of the negative mumble chatter on Twitter and also simultaneously entertained. As someone who grew up playing team sports, I know the team succeeded or failed based on the performance of the individuals. I also know the best teammates have the ability to elevate those around them. I also know sport and competition can provide healing. When the twin towers were attacked I vividly remember sporting events that were held with the intention of providing normalcy, support and healing to a grieving country. YHC shared this quote:
“Sport has the power to change the world…it has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does. It speaks to youth in a language they understand. Sport can create hope where once there was only despair.” – Nelson Mandela
Brothers don’t look at competition as something that destroys brotherhood, though I think we saw that out of pax across the nation at times. Competition can push you, it can be a barometer, and yes it can also heal and make you and the team better.
Moleskine:
As all pax came across the finish line some threw their coupons while others swore at them. This was extremely challenging and those coupons deserved a little manly expression thrown their way. Love them or hate them, they were faithful buddies this month which forced us to be stronger.
