QIC: No Doze
Weather: 39. 16 mph winds out of the southeast. 30 real feel. As always, perfect weather for a No Doze Q.
YHC greeted 14 Pax and provided at least 4 out 5 core principles, and gave the disclaimer. PAX didn’t mosey anywhere. And we didn’t do any SSH’s to start off the Warm-o-Rama:
-High Knees – 10IC
-String Rippers aka Tappy Taps – 10IC
-Cherry Pickers – 10IC
-Monkey Humpers – 15 IC
The PAX remained in a Circle of Pain for a pre-THANG:
-EMOM: 5 merkins, 5 squats, 5 burpees. Rest for remainder of minute, add one burpee each round for 5 minutes = 25 merkins/25 squats/25 burpees in 5 minutes. Great was to start the morning
The PAX moseyed to the steps for The THANG:
Split the pax into two equal groups. Group 1 ran the stairs for 6 minutes (#crowdpleaser). Group 2 repeated sets of 10 merkins/10 squats/10 high knees IC. After 6 mins, Group 2 hit the stairs and Group 1 hit the merkins, squats, and high knees.
Mosey to parking garage for another EMOM:
Minute 1: 5 Mountain Climbers IC/5 High Knees IC/10 merkins
Minute 2: 5 Mountain Climbers IC/6 High Knees IC/12 merkins
Minute 3: 5 Mountain Climbers IC/7 High Knees IC/14 Merkins
Minute 4: 5 Mountain Climbers IC/8 High Knees IC/16 merkins
Minute 5: 5 Mountain Climbers IC/9 High Knees IC/18 merkins
Called Omaha and moseyed back to the shovel flags for . . . . Another mini-EMOM of two sets of 15 plank jacks IC. No Mary

-YHC attended services this week for a man, age 50, that passed away unexpectedly. Takeaway was that he was a happy, joyful guy in all of his encounters. Middle-agers like YHC tend to take stock of their mortality more often than we did in our 20’s and 30’s, but even moreso when confronted with events like these. Accordingly, it is an opportunity to both reflect and act. YHC read an excerpt from Hunter S. Thompson’s letter to his friend, written at age 22, regarding leading a meaningful life.
I don’t mean that we can’t BE firemen, bankers, or doctors— but that we must make the goal conform to the individual, rather than make the individual conform to the goal. In every man, heredity and environment have combined to produce a creature of certain abilities and desires— including a deeply ingrained need to function in such a way that his life will be MEANINGFUL. A man has to BE something; he has to matter.
As I see it then, the formula runs something like this: a man must choose a path which will let his ABILITIES function at maximum efficiency toward the gratification of his DESIRES. In doing this, he is fulfilling a need (giving himself identity by functioning in a set pattern toward a set goal), he avoids frustrating his potential (choosing a path which puts no limit on his self-development), and he avoids the terror of seeing his goal wilt or lose its charm as he draws closer to it (rather than bending himself to meet the demands of that which he seeks, he has bent his goal to conform to his own abilities and desires).
In short, he has not dedicated his life to reaching a pre-defined goal, but he has rather chosen a way of life he KNOWS he will enjoy. The goal is absolutely secondary: it is the functioning toward the goal which is important. And it seems almost ridiculous to say that a man MUST function in a pattern of his own choosing; for to let another man define your own goals is to give up one of the most meaningful aspects of life— the definitive act of will which makes a man an individual.
Let’s assume that you think you have a choice of eight paths to follow (all pre- defined paths, of course). And let’s assume that you can’t see any real purpose in any of the eight. THEN— and here is the essence of all I’ve said— you MUST FIND A NINTH PATH.
