QICs: Wait Time and Tater Tot

Tater Tot and YHC welcomed the PAX to our Sunday Funday workout at the Rabbit Hole. Normally, my disclaimer includes “for the next hour I am not your friend” but today we had a lot of fun planned and I will be everyone’s friend. We shared the mission statement and principles and welcomed our FNG – Levi. Tater Tot and I were instructed to make it fun and include some games, which is tradition at the Rabbit Hole. Tater Tot explained that I wondered if the Steinl was considered a game. We ultimately decided it was a game, but elected not to include it on our fun weinke.

Before we moseyed, we had our first game. Tater Tot challenged the site Q, Frosty in the enduring game of “Rock, Paper, Scissors.” If Tater Tot won the game, the PAX would start with 10 burpees. If Frosty prevailed, we would mosey to our first station for Warm-a-rama. Frosty used his nearly 50 years of clever wisdom to defeat the younger upstart who lost on the final round by choosing scissors.

The PAX moseyed to the boat dock for some yoga warm-a-rama.

YOG-A-RAMA:

Plank x 10 | Merkins x 10 | Shoulder Taps x 10 IC | Half Pigeon | Merkins x 10 | Half Pigeon | Plank x 10 | Garland Pose | Monkey Humpers x 15 IC | Garland Pose | Monkey Humpers x 15 IC

The PAX chose a partner and proceeded to mosey around the lake. We stopped on three occasions.

Station 1:
Partner Merkins x 10 | Partner Bobby Hurleys x 10 | Partner Merkins x 10 | Partner Bobby Hurleys x 10

Station 2:
PAX circled up for a game of “Duck-Duck-Goose.” Rather than the traditional game, the PAX rested in a plank. Tater Tot elected to be the Goose first and was required to bear crawl around the circle. He chose Blades of Glory who looked like a Kodiak and got Tater Tot before he could complete the circle. Several rounds proceeded. While the PAX awaited to be picked as the goose, they did shoulder taps or planked.

Station 3:
Partner Merkins x 10 | Partner Bobby Hurleys x 10 | Partner Merkins x 10 | Partner Bobby Hurleys x 10

THE THANG: KING OF THE MOUNTAIN

The PAX moseyed to the hill on the East side of the park. They climbed up and down the hill with various movements and completed these exercises.

Bear Crawl | Clock Merkins x 7 (12-3-6-9 o’clock) | Crawl Bear | Bernie Sanders | Hydraulic Squats x 20 IC | Sprint | Monkey Humpers x 15 IC | Lunge

ULTIMATE BASKETBALL

PAX moseyed to the basketball courts and divided into two teams. The warm-up game tested each team’s lay-up skills. One team would hit as many lay-ups as possible in one minute. For every made lay-up the other team remained in a plank and did a merkin when the lay-up was successful. Round two switched the exercise to Bobby Hurleys.

The teams then played “Ultimate Basketball.” Rules of the game were similar to ultimate frisbee or ultimate football. The teams could not dribble the basketball and were allowed two steps after catching a pass. If a team scored, the other team was required to do 10 burpees. If neither team scored in two minutes, then both teams were required to do 5 burpees.

The first segment ended on an amazing fade away three-pointer by Slow Pitch. A celebration ensued that rivaled the most amazing finishes ever showcased on “One Shining Moment.” The opposing team completed 10 burpees as Slow Pitch took a victory lap.

The second segment ended on a fast break finished by Spreadsheet. He filled the lane like Mailman Malone and showed his strong left hand (he might be a southpaw). 10 burpees for the losers.

The final segment ended in a draw. Neither team could score a basket. 5 burpees for all.

The PAX moseyed to the shovel flag for 6MOM.

6MOM “Egg-selent Hammers

We honored Rancid with Rancid-style American Hammers. There was one additional challenge to Rancid’s namesake exercise. When the cadence passed from PAX-to-PAX, the counter had to toss a raw egg to the PAX next to them. If an egg was broken, we would all do 10 burpees. We completed round 1 with two near misses and timed out at 58 seconds. For round 2, we added some COVID-19 social distancing standards which required a longer toss. Round 2 had to be completed faster than round 1. The PAX rose to the occasion and no eggs were harmed.

PRAYERS: Several prayers were requested – teenagers who might be struggling with depression, a family member who recently had a premature baby, others battling illnesses.

COT: “WHAT IS YOUR WHY?”

Tater Tot asked the PAX the question, “Why do you continue to post and remain involved in F3Omaha?” As we grow, it is evident that many PAX connect with an important “Why” that enables them to post in good times and bad times. Over the past 4 years, over 1,400 PAX have posted at least once. Some never return to a second workout.

It is important to understand your “Why.”

Today’s workout was a great example of what is possible with F3. Frosty has fostered a culture at the Rabbit Hole that ensures everyone has fun and there’s lots of fellowship. The Rabbit Hole, and F3Omaha in general, is like the movie “the Sandlot.” I felt like Smalls, The boy in the movie that moved into the neighborhood, and sought belonging. F3Omaha has helped me feel at home in Omaha. For many guys, this is their community. Some will have no other opportunity to meet other men outside of their workplace or their child’s school.

Embrace F3Omaha as your daily recess. Lean into the fellowship. Go to coffeeteria – especially when it is provided by Site Qs like Frosty. I have been doing F3 for nearly seven years. What keeping me coming back is knowing there are guys waiting for me at recess. Thanks to Frosty for holding today’s recess and asking me to lead. Thanks to Tater Tot for always being my partner in crime. I am so grateful for his leadership as Nant’an.

Rancid closed us in prayer.

On behalf of Tater Tot, grace & peace,

Wait Time
