QIC: Vandelay

Today – I am hoping to celebrate the Huskers 3rd win in a row.  Sadly, it has been a long time since this has happened.  But today, there is hope.  Today we will keep the Power of 3 on our minds.  Cheap Seats joined me for an earlier pre run at 5 and Cadbury and Home Alone joined us at 5:30. Kind of a modified Trifecta approach this morning.  Many know I am not a huge fan of the cold and today was some of the first signs of real cold in the morning, so we needed to keep moving.  After returning from pre-runs a small but mighty group had started to assemble.

I welcomed everyone to the Gloom and announced the topic of the number 3.  Important today as the Huskers go for 3 wins in a row.  Also, if you subtract 10 from 28 (The date) you get a number divisible by 3.  I know – stretching it a bit.  3 is important in Faith and Religion for many reasons, but also important for life as we consider what we are doing to Live Third and what that looks like.

I covered the standard Mission, Principles, and Disclaimers, and checked for new guys.

The Mission of F3 is to plant, grow, and serve small men’s workout groups for the invigoration of male community leadership.

5 Core Principles: 1) It’s free; 2) open to all men; 3) always held outdoors; 4) peer led in a rotating fashion; and 5) ends in a circle of trust.

Having a number of guys that would be a multiple of 3 would have been awesome – but we had an awesome group anyway.

Warm-A-Rama (and a little Pre- Thang)

We ran to the parking lot at the end of the boulevard and ran through some nice stretching after starting with some things to raise the heart rate:

High Knees – 15 IC

Fast Feet – 15 IC

Weed wackers – 15 IC

Windmills – 12 IC

Yoga – Downward Dog

Cobra Stretch

Pre Thang

We ran to the Baseball field parking lot and ran between poles (3 of them Coincidently)

Sprint -Jog- Sprint, Return with Super Marios- walk- Super Marios – then repeat.

This was followed by Usain Bolt 45s – 3 sets 3exercises completed 15 times: This is one of my favorites and the multiples complied with the theme for the day.

The Thang

This Thang consisted of a Three Man Grinder, but I modified us into 3 groups.  One group on each side of the track and one running group.  All pushing on each half lap.  AMRAP exercises were done on each side of track -Arms or core on one side – Legs on the other. PAX member choice on exercise.

We then moseyed back to the flags.

Message from the Q – Vandelay:

Although I made some jokes about the number three throughout the morning and rather shallow references, the idea of Living Third is incredibly important and something we discuss a lot in F3.  Sometimes it is good to step back and evaluate if that is really what we are doing or are we talking about it but not carrying it out of the Gloom.

Interestingly, if you Google “Living Third” – one of the first items you encounter is a blog post by Ryan McKinney and the excerpt below is from there:I’m Ryan and this is my blog, “Living Third”. I’m a regular guy with an awesome family. I believe in living third.
