Q: Frosty and Touche
Today is special for two reasons: The Rabbit Hole’s Anniversary and the shovel flag pass to Touche’ We welcomed the PAX at 7 am, went over the 5 core principals, mission statement and disclaimer. I always check with Greasefire before I think I’m done with the intro, he nodded and we took off.
You never know where the Rabbit Hole will lead you!
“This is your last chance. After this there is no turning back. You take the blue pill, the story ends; you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. . . . . You take the red pill, you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.” – The Matrix
Great! First, let’s warm up.
Warm O’ Rama Touche lead us around the lagoon, stopping several times to do various warm-ups. Thre were SSH, Tappy Taps, Big Ones and Dry Docks
Pre Thang: We ran to the soccer fields for the pre-thang and did 11s. The cones were 50 yards apart and the exercises were merkins and air squats. It was tough to keep up with Waterboy!
I heard a lot of great chatter and really enjoyed my time with Uhaul and Slow Pitch. We finished right on time.
The Thang: Mushball: Let me tell you a little bit about Mushball. Mushball is just softball you play with no gloves. The ball is bigger and softer. Just like kickball, the fielders are encouraged to do an exercise until the ball is pitched. The dugout also does an exercise.
Mushball is a ton of fun and this game was no exception. Uhaul gets the amazing catch award with an over the shoulder, Willy Mayes style catch robbing Slow Pitch of at least a triple. Othello owned the foul line. Biff doesn’t screw around at the plate I’ll tell you that. Blades of Glory fielded one from the “hot corner” and made an exceptional throw to first. There were so many great, fun moments including Rancid’s plea to the lord for our team to get some defense.
Calories were burned. Laughter was heard. Athleticism was displayed. Sportsmanship was everywhere. I want The Situation on my team next time that’s for sure.
At the end of it all, nobody knew the real score, not even Folsom, and that’s ok. There was plenty of offense, there was plenty of defense. We hope to see Lemu, Irish Car Bomb and Squidward down the hole again soon.
Whenever Lansbury and Slow Pitch are around, I know I’m going to get at least one big belly laugh from each of them. I really dig that about those guys.
“The game” portion of The Rabbit Hole is really what sets this site apart. We have Uhaul to thank for that from when he brought ultimate frisbee to one of the first Benson Park “pop-ups”. Over the first year we’ve played Mushball, Kickball, Dodgeball, Rugby, Ultimate Frisbee, Tag, Ultimate Frisbee with a tennis ball, Ultimate Frisbee with a vinyl disc, Some sort of golf thingy, Flag Football and more.
Something to note: There is nothing quite like being around all you men and this year has been incredible. Thank you to all the PAX who have shaped this site over the last year. That was the goal: to take a little bit from everyone who came through and left their mark. I think we did that. Thanks so much for letting me lead.
COT: Life is not always a straight line. Sometimes there are obstacles and sometimes there is hurt. Lou Gehrig’s record of starting 2,130 consecutive games stood for an amazing 56 years. What made gave him such longevity was his ability to improvise and to get over hurt. After Gehrig’s death, X-Rays would show he broke every finger on both hands at least once. What made Gehrig the original iron man was he didn’t let pain push him into throwing in the towel.
I thought there was an exact parallel between Gehrig’s resilience and Touche’. Touche and I have a lot in common. We share a lot of the same “hurts”. Touche’ is an Iron Man who didn’t punt on 2nd down or throw in the towel because of adversity and who’s road to F3 was definitely not a straight line. I’m so grateful to have him in my life. He’s one of my leaders and he has a lot of leading to do in F3.
Touche’ expressed his gratitude and optimism for the next year. We can’t wait to see how this site continues to grow
