QIC: Gator
Greeting
The Q welcomed the PAX to F3 and the hardest working AO in Omaha: The Combine. We covered our mission statement, five core principles, the credo, and the disclaimer. We had one FNG: Nate – welcome!
The Q also wished the PAX a Happy Constitution Day. On September 17, 1787, the Constitution was signed by the delegates. Later, each state would ratify the Constitution. YHC then asked the first of several trivia questions:
How many Articles are in the Constitution? YHC heard guesses of 25 and 13, but the correct answer is 7. So, we did
Burpees x 7
Then we did a mosey to the other side of the school.
Warm-A-Rama
We did reps of 10 for the Bill of Rights and reps of 27 for the total number of Amendments:
Imperial Walkers x 10 IC
Tappy Taps x 10 IC
SSH x 27 IC
Big Ones x 10 IC
Windmills x 10 IC
Cherry Pickers x 27 IC
Next trivia question:
Name all 5 freedoms in the First Amendment. For each one we name, we’ll do 1 burpee. For each one we don’t, we’ll do 5 burpees.
The PAX began throwing out lots of correct answers: Speech, Religion, Press, and Assembly. But we couldn’t get the last one… the Right to Petition the Government.
Burpees x 9
Quick mosey to the wall on the east side of the school
The Pre-Thang:
YHC demonstrated the Ascending Testicles exercise and then we did two rounds as follows:
With our feet against the wall at a 15-degree angle,
Derkins x 10
With our feet against the wall at a 45-degree angle,
Derkins x 10
With our feet against the wall at full Balls to the Wall,
Derkins x 10
The PAX crushed this tough exercise – great job, brothers!
Then we did a 5-count wall sit with 21 PAX
Followed by Bernie Sanders up the hill
Then Cheap Seats led us in 20 Monkey Humpers IC
We ran back down the hill
Then we did a 1-count wall sit
Followed by Bernie Sanders up the hill
Then Ketchup led us in 20 Monkey Humpers IC
We grabbed a partner and moseyed to the field
The Thang:
Before YHC explained the Thang, the next trivia question was posed:
Only once in our history has one Amendment been ratified to repeal another Amendment – the 21st repealed the 18th. What were those Amendments about?
Many PAX chimed in with the correct answer: Prohibition. In honor of those two Amendments*, we did
Burpees x 2
*Had we missed it, we would have had to honor all 27 Amendments with burpees… nice job, PAX!
We then did a two-man grinder where one PAX ran 50 yards from the goal line and back, while the other PAX performed the following exercises in a cumulative manner:
50 Jump Tucks
100 Big Boys
200 Merkins
300 Air Squats
200 Carolina Dry Docks
100 Flutter Kicks IC
50 Burpees
We made it to Dry Docks before the Q called Omaha. Then we circled up for
6-M-O-M
We did plank for 30 seconds with help from Fine Print, Yodel, and Cheap Seats. Then we immediately did
Gator Spears x 20 IC (10 each arm)
And dropped right into elbow plank for
Gator Tails x 20 IC (10 each leg)
Then the final trivia question was posed:
Which State was the first to ratify the Constitution?
Fine Print nailed it with: Delaware. If you’ve ever seen a Delaware license plate, it says “The First State” for that reason.
Burpees x 1 (we avoided 13 by getting the correct answer – great job!)
Count Off and Name-O-Rama
Back at the Shovel Flags, we did Name-O-Rama and then named our FNG:
Welcome Sam’s Club!
Announcements and Prayers
Vala’s event is this Sunday
Iron Pax at The Pit tomorrow
Prayers were offered from the group out loud and silently
COT:
The Constitution is an amazing and remarkable document for many reasons. I spoke about the monument it is to peaceful and respectful disagreements. The Founders knew we would be a nation of people with passionate disagreements. The Constitution outlines many of the ways to handle those disagreements: Separation of Powers, Checks and Balances, Rights of the People, the Power of States, and lots of other procedures and principles to allow us to manage those disagreements.
But a quote from the late Justice Antonin Scalia is a reminder that, when we have disagreements, we should always separate the person from the idea we oppose:
“I attack ideas. I don’t attack people. And some very good people have some very bad ideas.”
There is nothing wrong with having a disagreement. It is our freedom to do so and what the Constitution expects. We can always do so, however, by treating each other with dignity and respect. Happy Constitution Day to all the PAX!
Happy Camper was graciously accepted the offer to take us out in prayer and left us with a great message.
Always grateful to lead such an excellent (and scholarly) group of men!
Aye!
Gator
