Q: Beaver’s 38th Birthday Q

5:05 a.m. There were a number of cars in the parking lot on this crisp moonlit 28 degree morning.  Some smurphers could be heard laughing in the distance, and the prerunners were out of sight out dodging barricades.  Beaver headed out to check the field conditions at the locations of the planned shenanigans of the day. Conditions were determined fantastic with frozen topsoil and no ice on the pavement. A few lights and cones were set out in anticipation of the Boyd St. accelerators…

5:30 a.m.

Beaver welcomed the group to F3 and started with the 3 Fs. Mission statement, core principles, and creedo were on point.  No FNGs.  Not a pro.  I warned the group that we’d be exploring the site since it was my first Q here and that they could expect some new ways of using the on-site equipment.

Warmarama

Part 1: Mosey north to the basketball courts. 10 Side straddle hops (IC); 10 Goofballs (IC); 20 sun gods (IC); 10 Beaver Merkins (IC).

Part 2: Mosey south to the tennis courts. Counted off into two groups.  Beaver would lead group 1; Pantyhose group 2.  Both groups lined up on the court sideline in two rows and would perform a series of warm up exercises/agilities.  Each exercise would be performed to the middle and then jogged out the remainder to the other court sideline.  A new exercise would be performed to take the groups back.  Exercises: High knees, butt kickers, Marios, bounds, lunges, Kickouts.

Pre-Thang

Mosey south to the picnic table-playground area.  Group 2 to the picnic tables to do 25 triceps dips and 25 inclined merkins before calling a switch with group 1.  Group 1 on the playground catwalks where they would use the side rails (both-one arm to each) to lift and perform pectoral dips.  PAX did as many as they could and switched to Raise the Roof.  Some did more pectoral dips until pushed by Group 2.

Moved over the wooden shack structure. Group 1 wall sits.  Group 2 15 beaver merkins (IC).  Switch and complete swapped exercises.  Next the group attempted some Wall sit Derkins in which 1 Pax in a wall sit held another PAX’s feet so they could do 10 Derkins.  Switch. Marginally successful.  It was noted that the steep terrain on the west side was not very conducive/safe for the exercise—modifications were conducted.  Likely better suited for walls not at steep slopes!

Thang

Pax moseyed south to the SW corner of the park at Boyd St.  Hamstrings were stretched before the Q pointed out the shining cone up the Boyd St. hill which would signify the end of the Boyd St. Accelerators.  Group 1 then Group 2 accelerated up the hill—190 yards of pure joy.  Pax moseyed to a cone offset the street halfway back down the hill and gathered for two rounds of random Mary with an additional stretch.  Back to the bottom of Boyd St.  2.5 rounds of this were carried out gleefully until…

OMAHA! Mosey north to the flags.

Mary: American hammers (rancid count-off to 38, a good number for the day)

COT: I reflected on birthdays of years past.  In my 20’s there were many Breckenridge fun times and at 30 I related to Tim McGraw’s “My Next 30 Years”, “Drink a little lemonade and not so many beers…Maybe, I’ll remember my next 30 years”.  I was at a point in life where I pivoted and prioritized family over most anything else including beer (good) but left fitness in the dust (not so good).  F3 brought me to the table in 2021 of being able to make gains, which I made some, but I didn’t really make significant headway until I more wholly invested in F3, started prerunning this fall, and Queen service started on Halloween.  Between the increased fitness and better diet, I was able to surpass my weight loss goal yesterday (13 lb so far).  All a testament to the support, availability, encouragement, etc. of the HIM of F3, all of which I am extremely grateful.  As I reviewed the song lyrics, I noticed the prior lines of the song.  “Oh, my next 30 years I’m gonna watch my weight. Eat a few more salads and not stay up so late”.  I guess I had the sequence flopped, but I know I’ve now set myself up to be a better man for my next 30 years.

Cheers.
