F3Omaha October 5, 2023, National Do Something Nice Day

10/05/2023: The Battlefield

I arrived early to set up, but not much was needed.   It was one of the first really cool mornings of the season that was noticeable.  I hope the real cold holds off for a while yet – at least through the winter.   Q-tip took off for a walk at the track while Chiclets and I started our pre-run.

Arriving back at Westside I was surprised by the number of PAX assembling, and very appreciative for their support today with all the other choices available.

PAX: Tenderfoot, Laser Jet (Respect), Tin Cup (Respect), Q-Tip (Respect Respect), Penny Marshall, Winslow, DaVinci (Respect Respect Respect), Knoxville, Chiclets (Respect), Splinter, Jazz Hands.

QIC: Vandelay –

I greeted everyone and presented the standard mission, core principles, and disclaimers.

I indicated that today is National Do Something Nice Day, and asked everyone to think about simple things that could be done to better another person’s day.  I also assured them that I planned to be nice for the duration of the Beatdown.

We did one lap and circled around the “M” in the middle of the field where we did 15 Monkey Humpers IC, with butts to the “M” in the middle.  OK- enough of that.

Warm-A-Rama

I led a series of yoga stretches: Downward Dog, Up Facing Dog, Spread Child’s Pose.

15 Weed-wackers- IC

Big Ones – alternating 10 counts to each side twice.

100-yard sprint – Mosey back

100-yard sprint, with slightly more effort – Mosey back

50-yard sprint, even more effort.

No hammies were blown

Pre Thang

We circled back up at mid-field for a little Pre-Thang

Plank – Hold for 40, 20 Merkins, Chillcut – Hold for 40, 20 Merkins. Group handled the count alternating 20s.  Repeat.

The THANG

I really enjoy stair workouts at The Spike so I figured it should work here also – even though the turf isn’t as good 😊.  The Thang consisted of pairing up and 1 partner running stairs while your partner did an exercise in 5 Rounds.    I had partner groups partner up so each PAX member was always with another to encourage mumblechatter and motivation.  Alternating turns on the stairs.  Partner exercises were AMRAP:

Stairs: 2 leg hop (2x), Single leg hop alternating legs in 10 (2x), Wide stair steps (2x), Going up Backwards (2X), Sprint stairs (2X)

Partner: Plank Hold, Reverse Plank Hold, LBCs, Merkins, Your Choice

Omaha was called and most groups didn’t make it to the last round.

6 MOM

We had to do Boxcutters – 20 IC

Heel Touches – 20 IC

Tenderfoot selected Frozen Freddies – 20 IC

Rancid Style American Hammer- twice around

Message from the Q – Vandelay:

Today is National Do Something Nice Day- DO it.

It seems the more you pay attention, the more it is noticeable that people just don’t treat each other well.  Of note, our elected representatives this week are behaving like children (which is insulting to children, quite frankly) rather than leading our country and making decisions for the betterment of all.  There is a lot of selfishness and really poor treatment of each other, let alone other groups of people.

It really isn’t that hard for the simplest of gestures.  Hold open a door, let someone in on congested traffic, saying “Hi”.  Most of the time you don’t know what is going on for another person and a simple gesture of niceness can make a huge difference.  We talk about being HIM, and sometimes it is hard to just remember to be SIM (Small Impact Men).

My challenge today is to make that small gesture of “Nice” when maybe you wouldn’t necessarily have done so.  It may make you feel better also.

Thanks Tenderfoot, for the opportunity to lead.

Aye!
