05/17/2022: The Sanitarium, Humidity 62% and 62 degrees. Beautiful weather

QIC: Vandelay

I arrived early to survey the site and set up the turf field for the Thang – pretty simple today.  It was a beautiful morning, and the field was open so all was good.  After sheets and paint jar paper weights were in place, I headed out to greet the pre-run crowd, which was pretty large and BONUS – included an FNG- Josh.  I welcomed Josh to the site even though I was unfamiliar with general practices at the Sanitarium as of yet, but felt very welcomed.

Pre-run went off without any issues, and during the run I enjoyed hearing the epic story about how the Rabbit Hole ended Sunday from Slow Pitch and Tater Tot. Apparently, Slow Pitch has some serious Basketball moves- understandable.

As we arrived back at PLHS a good size group had assembled, anticipating some quality leadership for the morning. Hopefully I was not going to let them down.

PAX: Schrute, Bayside, Flowers, Sweet Sweet, Q-Tip (RR), Animal House, Low Flow, Shingles, Duracell, Motown (R ), Slow Pitch, Firewalker, Girl Dad, Jean Claude, KOA, Simmons, Milo, ICB, FNG, Tater Tot, Rooney, Squeaky Clean, Black Tuesday, Mortar, Icy Hot, High Life

I welcomed everyone to the Sanitarium and thanked them for allowing me to lead for my first time south of the county line.

I presented the mission, core principles, and disclaimers. Today we were celebrating National Graduation Tassel Day commemorating all graduates at this time of year. Congrats to Motown who has a son graduating from CP. For me personally, my daughter graduated this past weekend so today’s topic has some special meaning. We completed a mosey to the south turf field where we assembled for Warm-A Rama

Warm-A-Rama

We quickly organized into groups of 4-5 for Warm-A-Rama. This has become my norm for making groups because we suck at counting off.

We then ran 15 yard sprints between our group with arm exercises on one side (Sun Gods/ Cherry Pickers) and leg exercises on the other (High Knees/ Butt Kickers).

Pre Thang

Usain Bolt 45s – one of my favorites (15 High Squat-15 Low squat – 15 Squat Jumps) x3.

Johnny Dramas (15 straight/15 Out/ 15 in)

The THANG

Thang consisted of reassembling with your Warm-A- Rama group. As a group we started at the north goal line and ran 10 yards and did Bernie Sanders back, then 20 yards and back, then 30 yards, etc. until you reached the other goal line. Exercises were at each 10-yard mark in quantity of line marker:

10 – Alarm Clocks

20- Monkey Humpers IC

30- Merkins

40- LBCS IC

50- Air Squats

40- Flutter Kicks IC

30- Mountain Climbers IC

20- Bobby Hurleys

10- Bonnie Blairs IC

1 Oh Yeah

Pretty much every group made the cycle.

6 MOM

Box cutters – 15 IC.  PAX were encouraged to remember that boxes are traditionally rectangles Dyeing Cockroaches – 15 IC

E2K – 15 each side

Heal Touches – 23 IC- Slow Pitch led this one.

Sarpy Slammers – Rancid Style.

Name-A-Rama

A few issues ensued trying to complete Name-A -Rama but you can watch the video for that one.

Message from the Q – Vandelay:

Today we are celebrating National Graduation Tassel Day.  It is also National Pack Rat Day and I have a few relations that could support that, but we will focus on the more positive.  My daughter graduated from Rockhurst University this past Saturday.  It was an enjoyable family weekend, and I am very proud of her accomplishment.

I have learned a lot about parenting- or not parenting- as the case may be as my children have gotten older.  Parenting “adults” is quite the education and I have needed to learn to stay out of the way to let them be their own person, while providing a guardrail based on my life experience.  At times, my offering is not received with the amount of enthusiasm I would like to think it deserves.

I am not sure I have figured it out. As my daughter has approached the end of her college career, we have had some interesting “adult” life discussions from religion, to government, social justice, eating or not eating animals, and living arrangements post college. In case you are wondering – I have a new roommate.

It is important to be proud of who your kids are becoming and challenge the expectations of what you want them to be. Be supportive and be there, but also stay out of the way. Eventually – I will figure it out. I hope.

In reflection, conversations I have on a daily basis with my F3 Brothers allows me to regularly keep perspective on my parental challenges.   I appreciate people listening when I take the time to share my thoughts and concerns.  In addition, I appreciate the nuggets offered by each of you based on your own experiences, and I regularly use them to gage my own behavior, thoughts, and reactions.

Congrats to this season’s graduates.

Aye!
