I arrived to the Mess hall right before 5 am. There was a small group of pre-runners assembling and they asked me to join. I told them to go fuck themselves and I proceeded to go set up for the beat down.

I loved this site, whether it be for the Mess Hall or the Coop. There was so much great space, so many terrific options. And the Hill. I love that Hill. It makes me happy. It pushes me. And it makes me better.

I knew I wanted to grind on that hill but I was not sure what I would be doing for the Pre-Thang. We could run, we could do wall work, we could get sexy. I walked around the hallowed grounds and to my surprise found a staircase on the South side of the school. And the best part, it let to nowhere. A locked door. My mind raced with options and then I got it. Balls to the Stairs. I will elaborate later.

After setup I walked a few laps on the trail around the park. It was dark and peaceful. I thought life, love and licorice. I have been doing a lot of solo prewalks lately and I cannot recommend them enough. When was the last time you walked alone in the dark and thought about your life?

I made my way back to the flags and a small but mighty group had assembled. 8 of us in total were ready to take on the gloom. At 5:30, I limped through the intro. 3 Fs. 5 core principles. It got pretty blurry after that.

And with that, we moseyed down to the basketball court for some WAR!

WARM-A-RAMA:

SSH

Big Ones

Deep Stretch

Mosey around the park- one lap

The mosey was a great way to start things off. I buddied up with Chaw, who I had not met but had a lot in common with. F3 Omaha is lucky to have this guy on board. Plus he is a Panther!

As we arrived back to the school, we walked over to the North side of the hill. There is a great brick wall there which is perfect for wall work. I had everyone partner up and one guy would do balls to the wall while the other guy would run to the south stairs, run up them, run down them and then run back to tag out their partner. We would see how many rounds we would do.

Pre:Thang:

Balls to the Stairs!

It ended up being two rounds. I was cashed after that. It was now time for the Thang. We were going to grind.

The Thang was filled with mumblechatter, laughter, music and constant motion. I love these small groups, I feel like we always have so much fun.

COT:

I took Bodhi to go see the new Paw Patrol movie last weekend and one of the messages landed with me. Just because you are small, does not mean you can’t change the world. Now for me, small is not about stature. I mean, Look at me. I am 6’3’’, 200 lbs and could play Wide Receiver in an over 40 men’s football league. As Bodhi says, I am a Big House.

For me, it is more about being only one person. I took a new job this summer and had high hopes of changing the company for the better, creating a new culture and taking us to new heights. Then I got there and found out there were lots of challenges, tension between departments, culture issues and I feel into that really dangerous spot to be. The “What can I do, I am only one person” pond.

I felt overwhelmed by everything that had to be done and I felt too “small” to do something about it.

I feel like we can feel that way in f3 at times too. There are so many problems in the world how can this small group make an impact?

Well, my challenge to you is to not let that heaviness stop you from moving. Don’t let the fear and doubt, paralyze you. Don’t stop at “but I am only one person.”

We are so much more powerful than we know and it takes one person, one small action, one small group to make a huge difference.

As Margaret Mead once said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”

I love you guys
