The Octagon
Play Ball!
Intro: Introduce the five principles, mission statement, no FNGs
Pax in attendance: Low Flow, Fallout, Golden Pike, Mulligan, Folsom, Corndawg, Khakis, Danza, Slow Pitch, Edison, Nodule, Tater Tot, Patton, Lansburry, Ice-T
Warmarama: 15 SSHs, 15 Tappy Taps, 15 Imperial Walkers
Pre-Thang: Listened to “Center Field” by John Fogerty (though the Q forgot his speaker and the pax could hardly hear it). Did SSHs until the chorus, when the pax did burpees. Though the song was under 4 minutes, it was a relief to reach the end of the song.
Thang: Four stations, four groups. AMRAP of each exercise until pushed.
Station 1: Copperhead squats, Werkins, Box Cutters, Carolina Dry Docs, Plank Jacks, Cherry Pickers, Alternating Shoulder Taps, Plank, Mountain Climbers, Dive Bombers
Station 2: Carolina Dry Docs, Apollo Ohnos, Gas Pumpers, Mountain Climbers, Werkins, Oh Yeahs, Frozen Freddies, Burpees
Station 3: Squat Jumps, Oh Yeahs, Monkey Humpers, Chillcut Plank, Bonnie Blairs, Bobby Hurleys, Ranger Merkins, Apollo Ohnos, Frozen Freddys, Burpees
Station 4: Five Goofballs then push
Second Thang: Split into two teams and played whiffle ball. If the batter got out, they lost and the fielding team won; if the batter got past first, the hitting team won and fielding team lost; if the batter got to first base, it was basically a push. So after each batter, options were:
Winning team: 9 Squat Jumps; Losing team: 9 Merkins
Push: 9 Groiners for all
This continued until Omaha was called, at which point we did some minutes of Mary: Heels to Heaven, Marge and Homers, two rounds of American Hammers. This concluded the workout portion.
COT: Baseball gets a bad rap sometimes, since it’s not fast-paced and can be long. But I’m coming to embrace those aspects, so I can be present with those around me, slow down my busy life, and cheer on the kids playing their hardest on the field. It’s Monday morning, so we’re all about to get busy with the week; I encourage you to slow down and be present with those around you, and enjoy what is happening even if it isn’t fast-paced or overly exciting. Play ball!
