Welcome: Quick intro, no new guys, I wasn’t in the mood for any bullsh*t and made that clear. Pit Stop however was giggling as I said that we wouldn’t have fun, and I couldn’t help but smile and laugh as well. The core principals, mission statement, and disclaimer were provided. Mosey to the soccer field for warmarama.
Warmarama: It was clear as we moved onto the field, that it was wet, soggy in fact, which is exactly how I’d prefer it. We circled up with a speaker in the middle and began doing side straddle hops IC while I hopped around the group placing 8 cones about equal distances apart. It took 30 SSH to accomplish the setup, which concluded Warmarama.
Thang: “Ocho Ocho” The only reason for the name is today is 8/8 and we have 8 stations for this workout. We counted off into 8s, and the thang was explained. There are 8 stations, each with a rep count and an exercise. Start at your station number, complete the prescribed reps, then run to the speaker and out to the next station. This is kind of like an IronPAX rep based workout, with a little bit of a Wheel of Misfortune (minus the coupon) vibe. One key difference, is we will be picking up the six. As you complete a full revolution of the wheel, you will run laps around until everyone has completed it. If you choose to, you can complete remaining reps with whoever is the 6. Exercises were as follows: 1: 30 T-Merkins 2: 60 DC Squats 3: 30 WWI Situps 4: 20 Burpees 5: 60 Bobby Hurley’s 6: 30 LBC’s 7: 60 Overhead Claps 8: 50 American Hammers
All exercises were to be completed in a single counts. A few notes: The T-Merkin station had a ton of standing water, so you were practically swimming in it. There was a nice mud hole right next to the speaker which allowed for plenty of slippage. The burpee station was definitely the bottleneck. Two full revolutions were completed, with the end of the second one having all guys join the 6 to finish out his reps.
We wrapped up with a little mary by the shovel flags, which was: ABC’s and Rancid style American Hammers.
COT: Next month is the IPC challenge, and you’re going to start hearing a lot more talk about it. Only a few of the men present this morning have completed an IPC workout before. They are tough, and there are plenty of guys that gravitate towards them, and plenty of guys that completely avoid them. I’ve always really enjoyed the IPC workouts, because they have been a great challenge in the gloom, and some of my best F3 friendships have come from grinding out these terrible workouts together. Guys that I don’t see on a regular basis because of our proximity still get together for IPCs and we can discuss how awful they were afterwards. The wet field was a bonus today, because some of my fondest F3 memories of the early days in F3Omaha include working out on the field at the Maize and getting crazy muddy each week. That field used to be a swamp. It’s workouts like that that remind me of the fun had in high school football practices, where you’re just having a blast with your bros playing in the mud. Hopefully you’ll all remember the fun had grinding this out and getting messy.
Aye!
