Q: Slick
At promptly 5:30, PAX were welcomed to the Labyrinth (sponsored by David Bowie & Jim Henson). Explanation of the mission of F3, the core principles, and that Slick is NOT a professional so please modify as necessary. No FNGs.
Slick took some time to talk about the inspiration for this morning’s beatdown being the Full Moon tonight, Walter Payton and his rigorous Hill-Training that led to becoming the best RB in NFL history and Herb Brooks, the coach of the 1980s US Men’s Olympic Hockey Team who would go on to beat the Soviet Union in epic fashion.
Mosey + Warm-O-Rama:
PAX moseyed over to the Sprouting Minds parking lot where they would be taken through a 10 minute Yoga flow to help us connect deeper into our bodies with awareness and intention:
- Down Dogs
- Cobras
- Warrior
- Warrior + side stretches
- Child’s Pose
- Neck Stretches
- Hurdle Stretches
- Twist & Reaches
“Legs feed the wolf” Pre-Thang:
PAX moseyed to the bottom of Atlas hill. Slick talked about the 1980’s US Men’s Hockey Team and how this quote pertains to accomplishing what they did.
“The premise behind Coach Brooks’ quote stems from the nature of how wolves hunt. Wolves need to have the strength to be able to stalk and chase their prey if they want to eat and survive. The stronger your legs are – the stronger and better conditioned your entire body will be.”
PAX then completed 20 burpees (planking until 6 was in)
We then proceeded back up Atlas Hill alternating exercises as we climbed while staying together:
- Alternate between Bernie Sanders/forward lunges. Switching at each light pole along the way.
The “Will-maker” Thang: Inspired by Walter “Sweetness” Payton
Walter Payton was famous for his training on a garbage dump hill in Arlington Heights, near his home. The hill was very steep and about 50-60 yards. See more here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqmxWZ8Rbwc
PAX broke into groups of 4
- 2 PAX would run down to the other fire hydrant at the bottom of Atlas, complete 3 burpees, then sprint back to the top of the hill. R&R
- 2 PAX would complete the following exercises in AMRAP while other 2 PAX ran to the bottom of Atlas and sprinted back. R&R
- Merkins
- LBDs on curb
- Big Boyz
Omaha! was called at 6:05 where the PAX then moseyed back to the shovelflags:

Slick went deep in talking about the moon.
- The most widely accepted explanation is that the moon was created when a rock the size of mars slammed into Earth, shortly after the solar system began forming 4.5 billion years ago. The moon has been around to see the entirety of earths creation story. It holds profound wisdom in it’s knowing.
- More than 60% of the human body is made up of water. As the moon rotates around Earth, the gravity of the moon and sun pulls on water in the oceans creating low and high tides. This is exacerbated during New and Full Moons when the moon and sun are in alignment. It would be quite crass for us to think we aren’t energetically effected by these lunar cycles in the same way as the moon and sun pull on the water inside of us.
- The moon we are looking at today is the same moon that all of civilization has gazed up at. Every single homo-sapien has experienced the moon in all it’s glory. Let’s pause and think about how profound that is. The moon has been one of our most trusted allies in tracking time for humanity, helping us plant/harvest crops based on it’s lunar cycles (29.5 days). We are connected with our ancestors across time as we look up and ponder our trusted friend and all it’s majesty, magic and mystic.
- Let’s take a moment to feel the pull of the moon on our bodies. Calling us to trust our inner knowing and intuition. To tap back into our organic connection with nature and humanity and come back home.
Slick prayed us out. Look up tonight at 8:36pm CST as the full moon rises and sing your song and howl back through time and absorb the moons wisdom.
Aye!
