It was a beautifully cool F3Omaha gloom. I arrived at the Cat House a little bit early to drive around and confirm what I already remembered, the hills running north and south along 43rd St, north of the AO.
I pulled into the parking lot about five minutes early for the pre-run and noticed Low Flow’s and Razzle Dazzle’s cars and quickly realized that these lunatics were getting in some extra credit. They both arrived back to the AO shortly before for the pre-run, to join Cougar and I.
The beatdown started promptly at 0515. I recited F3’s Mission Statement, Five Core Principles and that I was not a professional – to modify today’s workout as needed. Finally, I stated F3’s Credo as there would be an emphasis on it today, “Leave no man behind, but leave no man where you found him.”
We circled up in the parking lot complete a brief Warm-O-Rama:
- 10 Tappy Taps (IC)
- 10 Overhead Claps
- 10 Moroccan Night Clubs (IC)
- 10 Big Ones (IC)
- 15 SSH (IC)
The Thang
I brought my coupon along this morning, knowing how much Low Flow adores them. I informed the PAX that we would be moseying up and down 43rd St, sharing the responsibility of carrying the coupon throughout the run. G-String offered up his coupon as well, but I felt responsible to not place the lovely Pearl in any kind of unnecessary peril.
The PAX moseyed up and down the hills of 43rd St, all the way north to Harrison St. We moseyed back south to Margo/Bernadette and then about halfway back to Harrison St before turning south back to the AO. We would stop periodically along 43rd St, sometimes at the top of the hill, sometimes at the bottom to complete a series of exercises before taking off again.

COT
I told the group that I wanted today’s beatdown to be symbolic of what we experience in life and the role F3 can play. There is a lot shared in the gloom. Sometimes we are sharing and celebrating the successes of others. Sometimes we share difficult news and we are there to support our brothers. Occasionally stopping in both the “peaks and valleys” of the run today to complete exercises together was meant to represent this.
I also discussed that as men, we tend to carry a lot of responsibilities – fostering our relationship with our M, raising our 2.0s, building careers, managing finances, etc. We all show up to the gloom ready to support and encourage our brothers in these areas, which carrying the responsibility of the coupon was meant to represent.
Finally, and I’ve mentioned this a couple of times over the past month, the weather is about to start getting pretty cold. Any one of us could choose to go to a gym and put ourselves through a difficult workout, but there is a reason that we choose to get up early and show up for F3 – to see our brothers. Don’t let the weather deter you from missing out on the glue of F3. Get yourself prepared for the colder temperatures and encourage your brothers to continue posting through the winter months.
Aye!
