5:00 am Pre Run: Swiper, Simmons, GirlDad, KOA, Ray Bans, Stranglehold, Firewalker, Razzle Dazzle, Low Flow

5:30 am I had the plan set.  After multiple pre runs, and a bathroom break, I swapped by Nox gear for a headlamp and opened up the workout.  I covered what F3 is – Fitness, Fellowship and Faith. I then covered the 5 core principles of F3.  1) Open to ALL men . 2.  Always Free 3) Always held OUTSIDE 4) Lead in a rotating fashion and 5) Ends with a Circle of Trust (COT).  **I stressed you have to step up and lead, that is how the group works.

There were no FNGs today.

I reminded the PAX that I am not a professional.  Modify as necessary.  From this point forward there is a real risk of injury.

Finally I said our Credo is that we leave no man behind.

I explained our plan, which was going to lead us out East on the Papio Trail and then we would run on 72nd South to Cedardale.

5:35 am The Thang – Snake in the Grass

We would try and take the Crown for a Strava segment I created a few years ago, called “Snake in the Grass.”  Its a strip about .5 miles long from Patricia Drive to Cedardale.  I stopped and told the leaders to take off and go get it.  Then I made sure each group new the segment we were sprinting.  I started with the last group and ran it as hard as I could as well.  I instructed the Pax, to plank or Al Gore, once they passed Cedardale.   Guys ran super hard and were gassed.  We had a group enter the top 5 spots, but we did not take this crown, there was some world class class times.

It was at this point, that we were cross 72nd to head East into a new neighborhood that was I thinking I haven’t heard my watch announce any mileage, and I see that my watch was still paused from before the workout, where I visited one of Sarpy County and F3 Omaha’s finest restrooms. Oh well, it was a good reminder to not be subservient to the Watch and the apps.

We ran into this hilly neighborhood and ran up all 4 circles

  • 1 – We did 3 Burpees led by me
  • 2 – Tater Tot – 10 Derkins
  • 3 – Stranglehold – 10 Merkins
  • 4 – Low Flow – 10 Shoulder Taps IC

We ran back and Hit Crest Hill on the way back to the flags

Possibly the Most important thing you’ll read this Year…

The following is the philosophy of Charles Schulz, the creator of the ‘Peanuts’ comic strip.

You don’t have to actually answer the questions. Just ponder on them. Just read it straight through, and you’ll get the point.

1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world.

2. Name the last five Heisman trophy winners.

3. Name the last five winners of the Miss America pageant.

4. Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize.

5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for best actor and actress.

6. Name the last decade’s worth of World Series winners.

How did you do?

The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday.

These are no second-rate achievers.

They are the best in their fields.

But the applause dies.

Awards tarnish …

Achievements are forgotten.

Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners.

Here’s another quiz. See how you do on this one:

1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school.

2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.

3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.

4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special.

5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.

Easier?

The lesson:

The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money … or the most awards. They simply are the ones who care the most.

I took us out in prayer.

Aye!  Swiper
