Warmarama:

15 Side Straddle Hops (IC)

We ran north to the hill while doing the following while running:

Sun Gods (Front)

Sun Gods (Reverse)

Michael Phelps

Pre-Thang:

We got into 5 groups of 3 and took turns running down the hill and Bernie Sanders back up. At the bottom of the hill, each PAX completed 3 Kracken Burpees. The two partners at the top of the hill would hold a plank while facing each other and giving each other a low five. All PAX completed at least 3 trips up the hill.

Thang:

We moseyed to the football field for some fun with a deck of cards. Each group of 3 had a deck of cards and would flip a card to determine the exercise and the number of reps. The number and suit of the card would determine the exercise and number of reps. (Face cards were 12 reps) The exercises would be performed in one endzone and then after running, again in the other endzone before running back to flip a new card.

Diamonds:

          Diamond Merkins (obviously)

Spades:

          Bobby Hurleys

Hearts:

          Monkey Humpers

Clubs:

          Maverick Merkins

Jokers:

          15 Burpees

Crankbait may have left some extra liquid on the parking lot after the Pre-Thang, but he survived and is better for it. Animal House and YHC made sure he finished the workout and supported him throughout the Thang. He never quit…T claps. There were some rumblings from a group about getting 2 Jokers in a row, but they were assured that the deck was pre shuffled. The group referred to that particular deck as the “Duracell” deck.

Mary:

          30 Farva Beans (IC)

          Sarpy Slammers

COT: This is the first time I decided to just speak from the heart instead of having something prepared, which was very hard for me to do. I discussed how my son had learned a tough life lesson over the weekend and how in turn we both learned something valuable. My son played on a very successful baseball team that had not lost to any team in Nebraska all season, but ended up losing in the state championship to a team that they had beaten four times previously. It was devastating to him and sadly to me as well because I wanted it so bad for him. But this is baseball and life for that matter. Things don’t always go as planned or how you think they should, but how do you respond to that setback? We were feeling down and walking to the parking lot to go home when my son noticed a lot of his friends playing in a different championship game. He asked to go watch and I begrudgingly agreed, even though I really just wanted to go home. We both watched an amazing game that was won on the last play of the game. We both supported the kids we knew and it felt good and helped us forget about the previous disappointment. My son said he was happy for his friends and thankful that we had the opportunity to support them. He followed it up with….”That will be me next year.” Our failures make us who we are and allow us to grow to be better and I know he will work hard to be better. It is important to support others during the ups and downs of life and continue to support them during times of your own personal disappointment and turmoil.
