YHC welcomed the PAX downtown. It was an incredibly beautiful morning – sunny and cool (60 degrees). A top five day in the gloom! PAX arrived to Gene Leahy Mall to find the AO being set up for a Labor Day Weekend concert. Thankfully, YHC arrived early to discover the workout would need to be modified to a different location. We welcome downrange PAX – April O’Neal from F3DesMoines. We were excited to see Waffle House testing an off-road wheelchair. He navigated the new equipment like a pro. After sharing the mission, principles and disclaimer we moseyed to the west end of the mall for Warm-a-rama.

THE THANG: BUDDY MOVIE TWO MAN GRINDER
PAX grabbed various coupons from YHC’s car. We had sandbags, cinder blocks and sand jugs. The coupons were used for the two-man grinder. Partner #1 started on the AMRAP exercises. Partner #2 ran down the turf hill (near the slides). At the bottom of the hill, Partner #2 did 5 Burpees. Partner #2 ran back to the first station and flapjacked with his partner.

After completing round #1, PAX had an intermission and tested the mall’s slides. Beta Max even did the slides with a coupon! After the intermission, the terrible things continued.

It was fun to have the inventors of two counting styles for 6MOM – Waffle House and Rancid.

VALA’S NIGHT is SEPT 16. Thanks again to Crab Cakes, there will be the F3Omaha Vala’s night on September 16. Crab Cakes is providing free tickets to PAX member’s families. The tickets can be used anytime during the weekend of September 16. F3Omaha’s convergence picnic will be on Friday night Sep 16. Details were emailed to PAX members. CORONADO POP-UP. Patton is launching Coronado on Monday’s at 5:30 AM. It will launch from Aldrich Elementary – same location as Red Wing. A pop-up will be held this Monday.

COT: “Beautiful and terrible things will happen…Don’t be afraid”
As a parent of a teenage daughter, I have been reflecting on how to balance solving problems for my teenage daughter and giving her space to become self-reliant. The beginning of this school year has been difficult for my daughter. She has faced some bully, mean-girl behavior. My tendency is to fix problems. I have found raising teenagers and young adults can be very difficult. As a parent, how do you support your child emerging into an adult?
I saw this quote, and have used it to guide my thinking. “We tend to tell our children ‘everything is gonna be alright.’ As a parent, shifting the mindset to ‘Here’s the world. Beautiful and terrible things will happen. Don’t be afraid.'”
I need to detach myself from the “terrible things.” It does my daughter a disservice to bubble-wrap her and protect her from pain. Instead, I have to help her be courageous and not be afraid.
Honestly, I need to use this quote in my own life.
