YHC welcomed the PAX to the Canyon.  It was a chilly, windy morning but staying warm would be no problem.  YHC asked the PAX to each list of a core principle and shared the mission statement himself.  We set off on a string of pearls covering 3+ miles along the route through the Riverfront, Conagra campus, OPD mounted patrol facility, Breakers Apartments and Lombard Steet.

The first product to be sold was a “ready-to-heat spaghetti kit” in 1928. The kit included uncooked pasta, tomato sauce, and a container of pre-grated cheese.[5] Two Chef Boyardee Mini Bites canned pasta products The U.S. military commissioned the company during World War II for the production of army rations, requiring the factory to run 24 hours a day.[2] At its peak, the company employed approximately 5,000 workers and produced 250,000 cans per day. After the war ended, Boiardi had to choose between selling the company or laying off everyone he had hired. He sold the company to American Home Foods in 1946 for nearly $6 million, and remained as a spokesman and consultant for the brand until 1978

In 2005, Con Agra Foods built a state of the art equine facility at 615 Leavenworth Street next to its prestigious downtown campus, in order to house the Mounted Patrol Unit. This facility includes a heated indoor training arena, an outside training arena and turn-out area, fifteen 12×12 stalls, tack room, classroom, locker rooms, offices, a large indoor heated storage area which includes room for two trucks, two trailers, 500 plus bales of hay, a grain bin, workshop area, and semi-trailer loads of shavings for stall bedding.

6       Breakers – Circle Burp

Just three years after Thomas Edison perfected the incandescent lamp, electric power arrived in Omaha in 1883 with the incorporation of the Northwestern Electric Lights Company and their installation of 20 arc lights along the city’s streets. Since then, the site of The Breakers power plant has been providing Omaha’s sources of heat and power, lighting up the city. A March 1890 article in the Omaha World Herald declared the coal-fired power station to be the largest electrical building of its kind in the United States, with such innovative features as a sliding crane and an elevator run by electricity.

The current buildings on the site were constructed over a period of approximately 31 years of considerable growth, from 1920-1951. Although the earliest portions of the complex (1889) were removed in the 1970s, the site on which they stood is included in the property’s green space, exceeding 11 acres. The Breakers consists of three attached structures named for their original uses: The boiler, The Turbine Hall, and The Switchgear.

9       Lombard Street – Bear Crawl, 5 x Merkins

The crooked part of Lombard Street was designed in 1922, after it was determined that the 27% grade of the hill was too steep for most vehicles, and even pedestrians. The switchbacks were designed to increase the ability to travel safely on Lombard, the one way street was paved with red bricks in its now-famously crooked fashion, and a recommended speed limit of 5 mph was established.

11     Human Flag Pole     Clockwork Merkins x 10

The human flag pole is among the toughest calisthenics exercises. It involves having your body suspended sideways and parallel to the ground. The only points of contact are your hands gripping the vertical pole.

As you can imagine, the gravity-defying display requires an incredible amount of strength and mental fortitude. For this reason, achieving the human flag tends to take time.

We did not attempt the human flag pole….

Omaha was called at 7:54 and we mosey’d back to the flag.

Polaroid shared how he spent 8 years living downtown.  A lot of these years shaped him into who is he today.  Keep your progress headed in the right direction but it is healthy to reflect on your blessings along the way.

Polaroid closed in prayer.
