Q: The Big One

Weather: Perfect May Morning

I got to the field around 5:15. I took a lap around the track placing cones in four corners of the track. one them. A good crowd of HIM circled up at 5:30 and I gave the mission statement and core principles. With that we proceeded through the winding gate and ran a full lap around the track and met at the 50 for Warm-O-Rama.

Pre Pre THANG – “Javelin” Throw

Inspired by the the state track meet just up the street from my house, I was in the mood for some competition. The first competition was the “Javelin” throw. In this case the javelin was a football. We all lined up on the north goal line. I then selected a member of the PAX to throw the football as far as they could. The rest of the PAX then ran to the yard line where the ball stopped and did 5 burpees. We repeated this 4 more times. Pony Express gave it his best shot, but surprisingly the Oklahoma Kid, did not take gold.

Pre THANG – Relays

We then split up into 5 teams and lined up on the north goal line for some relay races. The first “race” was the broad jump. We followed this with Super Marios. The races weren’t quite working like I planned, but was ok, we were still breaking a sweat. Finally, with the help of Ponzi, I figure it out. We proceeded to the sprint portion of the relays and that’s when the fun began. There were 3 sprint races. 20 and back pedal back. 35 back-pedal. 50 back-pedal. I’m pretty sure Black Lung’s team won all 3!

The THANG – 4 x 100 Relay

We split up into 4 groups and went to the numbered corners of the track for the 4 x 4 relay. Each cone had 1 workout AMRAP. This was going great until I realized we were 1 group short and therefore didn’t have a push group. I had to improvise. I sprinted back to the first cone and split up the group. We now had a 5 x 100 relay. We continued until I called Omaha.

We mosey’d to the 50 for Mary.

COT:

  • Name-o-Rama
  • Promoted upcoming Brick Builder on June 3rd (thanks Bubbles)
  • Continued prayers for Pete, Room Service and their family
  • For my COT I encouraged the PAX to give grace to others. I used the example of today. My Q wasn’t perfect, but the PAX picked me up and gave me grace. I also discussed a recent family get together where I was upset that a family member wasn’t more engaged. After complaining to my wife, she said, I ‘m choosing not to judge. This was a great reminder to me, to not judge and give others grace! I asked the PAX to do the same.
  • I closed with a prayer
  • Coffeeteria at Village Grinder

Thank you to Tenderfoot for the opportunity to lead!

Cheers,

The Big One
