NOR- The FNG said he was a father of all girls and had tons of nieces and basically was surrounded by women all the time. Pigtails was considered, but YHC had been sitting on a name for a while. I asked him his favorite candy and he replied Reeces so Buttercup it was! Also works for a father of girls…

COT- Progress
I am currently reading a biography of Benjamin Franklin and came across some of the authors and thinkers that inspired his way of thinking at a young age. This specific quote about progress stood out to me:
“Progress, the concept that individuals, and humanity in general, move forward and improve based on a steady increase of knowledge and the wisdom that comes from conquering adversity… this progress was not solely the handiwork of the Lord but also the result of a human struggle, by individuals and communities, to triumph over obstacles.”
I hadn’t planned to use the skate park because it had obstacles on it but that sure worked out. I asked the PAX to consider all of the obstacles that our country and world have faced over the last few years, and also to consider the personal obstacles they have had to overcome. I shared that my marriage was facing obstacles of poor communication and neither partner fully appreciating what the other one does while having an equal amount of stress at work.
At the Constitutional Convention, Benjamin Franklin pointed at an emblem on the back of George Washington’s chair. It was a sun that was over the horizon. Franklin quipped to Washington, “Is that rising or setting?” His point was to observe that this experiment called democracy would either strive or fail. It is a question we can still ask today about the state of our country and also our personal lives. Rising or setting? It is up to us to carry the torch of progress and continue to rise.
I led us out in a BOM and prayer of gratitude.
Here’s to good days and better tomorrow’s!
Cheers,
Mother Goose
