19 July 2022: Elkhorn Ridge Middle School Pop Up
Beautiful morning
QIC: Gator
I have an F3 rule – I don’t set my alarm for earlier than 4:00 a.m. But today, my alarm went off at 3:50AM. I was the Q for the first popup at Elkhorn Ridge Middle School and also told by soon-to-be-site-Q T-Ball that I would lead the 4:30AM Smurph. When Ozark and I pulled up with plenty of time to spare, I realized I could have had those extra 10 minutes of sleep.
But I haven’t Q’d a workout since May 12th and I didn’t want to oversleep (more on that later). There was a lot of action at this Pop Up!
Smurphers: (9) Sasquash, Fine Print, Ozark (respect), The Plaaaaaaaaag-AH!, Hei Hei, Chucky, Barbershop, Cheap Seats, and Gator
Pre-Runners: (2) T-Ball and Tea Party
PAX (24): T-Ball, Cradle, Fine Print, Barbershop, EA, Bojji, Patton (respect), DAAANG!, Lincoln Log (respect x2), The Plague, Chucky, Sasquash, Vlasic (respect), Big Unit, Stormchaser, Ozark (respect), Hei Hei, Patchy Adams, Escobar, Steeple, Sprout, Tea Party, Cheap Seats and Gator
At 5:15AM the Q welcomed the PAX to West Omaha’s soon-to-be newest AO: The Whetstone. The three Fs, the mission statement, the motto, the five core principles, and the disclaimer were covered. No FNGs. Second-time poster DAAANG! here today!
This new AO will have a QSource at 6am after every workout, so today’s trivia was devoted to just that:
Fine Print was conscripted to answer the first question:
What is a WHETSTONE?
A – A stone placed at the source of a spring which the QSOURCE uses as a metaphor that it’s okay to pee your pants during a workout
B- A chanting exercise that Plague wouldlead us in at beatdowns until he discovered his love of burpees
C – A stone used to sharpen knives which is used as a metaphor that men must be sharpened through accountability with their brothers in F3
Fine Print gave the correct answer: C
BOBBY HURLEY’S X 7
Mosey to the football field
WoR
We arrived to find out that the local community had already discovered this was a great place for a free, morning workout. Two guys were pumping out some tunes and running on the track. Thanks guys! We’ll see you in the gloom soon enough…
SSH x15 / Tappy Taps x12 / Big Ones x20 seconds each leg / Down Dog / Updog / Pigeon (both legs)
T-Ball volunteered for the next trivia question:
What is a SHIELDLOCK?
A – an anti car theft device that you put on your steering wheel
B – the Dads that I talk to at my kids baseball practice
C – My close group of F3 brothers that help each other set goals and hold each other accountable
T-Ball also gave the correct answer: C
BOBBY HURLEY’S X 7
Thang #1: BOMBS
Groups of 4 PAX. 2 run the track for one lap; the other 2 start the following exercises AMRAP until pushed:
Burpees / Overhand Claps / Merkins / Big Boys / Squats
I was an odd man (still am), so I jumped in with Vlasic, Lincoln Log, Fine Print, and Storm Chaser. Enjoyed some great mumblechatter with Stormchaser and FP. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Chucky and Plague do about 1,000 combined burpees and merkins. Keep accelerating!
The Q called Omaha as it was time for
Thang #2: Wall Pyramid (modify as necessary)
5 Australian Mt. Climbers / 10 Chicken Peckers / 15 Donkey Kicks / 20 seconds BTTW / 10 Count from Barber Shop / 20 seconds BTTW /15 Donkey Kicks / 10 Chicken Peckers / 5 Australian Mt. Climbers / Recover
Bojji volunteered for the next trivia question:
What are the priorities in a CONCENTRICA, starting with the most important?
B – Me, My job, Working out, my high school buddies, and family
C – M, 2.0s, Shieldlock, People you mentor, and work
Bojji gave us a third correct answer: C
BOBBY HURLEY’S X 7
Mosey to the ShovelFlags
The Q thought we would have time to run down to Pacific Park for Mary, but it was big day, like a nice little Saturday at the Home Depot – just didn’t think we’d have time…
So, we did 6MoM in a grass patch that was somewhat school property and somewhat someone’s backyard.
30 seconds Beast Mode / 10 Alt. Knee Taps / 30 seconds Plank / Gator Spears x10 each side / 30 seconds of chilcut / 10 Gator Tails each side
Patton gave us a perfect score by answering this question correctly:
TRIVIA #4- What is the QUEEN?
A – The greatest rock and roll band of all time
B – The person whom Reggie Jackson tried to assassinate in the movie Naked Gun
C – Your body as it relates to nutrition and keeping a healthy weight
Correct Answer: C
Note: I look up to see that Chucky did not find this part of the workout that challenging. (yes, he was literally standing on his head)

COT: Accountability
I have always been told that accountability is, generally, one man’s will power over his life. Men have to pull themselves up by the their bootstraps all by themselves. I call BS. If you’ve ever been through something difficult and had to get better through accountability, then I’m confident you did not do it all by yourself.
I have found the Q Source to be very helpful. One part in particular is this passage on accountability:
The HIM is different. Because he is a Servant who lives for his Mission, he treats his Blind Spots like any other Obstacle in his life–as a Problem that impedes Movement. Because a Problem can and must be remedied, the HIM does so by seeking Accountability. For a Blind Spot, that is the only thing that works. Although this requires him to admit his Problem to others, the HIM presses forward because his pride and sense of self are less important than the people he Serves.
It is difficult to say you need help. And even more so when you seek accountability. Recently, I have been sidelined by injury. As I got better, I needed to post. But I didn’t want to go. I would set my alarm at night, only to gently turn it off the next morning. This went on until I realized I could not do this alone. I reached out to my Shieldlock, and they got me back in the gloom. Last week was the first time I posted 6 days in a row since January. I couldn’t have done it without the accountability from my brothers. Thanks for being here and thank you for listening.
With Gratitude,
Gator
