Weather – perfect and beautiful for 0515.
The morning of June 5th. The day has become known for the day before D-Day, but today was the original schedule day for Allies to make their Beach Invasion off of France, but weather forecasts delayed the mission one day. Imagine having trained and being psyched-up for something so big and they delay it 24 hours.
I introduced myself, cited the mission statement and five core principles. Since this workout was going to be mission themed, I urged those who run the 6, that we would modify the credo a little bit. So, we were off and running.
We moseyed north from the shovel flags and counted off as 1 and 2 along the way and joined up at the Northeast corner of Regency Ave and Pacific. At this location I gave maps to Bubbles and Grillz. We were divided into 2 groups and each group had 8 minutes to rendezvous in the park. Even though Group 1 did miss the first turn on the map, we made up time and met up with Group two at the correct time. The first leg was a highly successful mission.
At this point we did four different exercises for two minutes as I distributed a new set of maps to two other leaders for the second leg. The second leg was successful with group 1 finishing roughly 30 seconds ahead of group two.
For the last leg of the course. New maps and new leaders were selected to have the two groups meet at the final rendezvous location. Group 1 nearly missed a crucial turn, but quickly caught the missed and did just a minor turn around. Group 1’s leader was very eager to wrap up the workout at the end as he led group 1 back to the shovel flag, but the Q quickly said no turn. The final rendezvous point was the beginning point.
Now that both groups were together, we moseyed to the Northwest driveway of the parking lot we use. From this location, it was approximately 300 yards to the shovel flags. The pax were instructed to finish the final 300 yards as hard and fast as possible. 300 yards is the distance of Omaha Beach.
Mary – We skipped Mary to stay on time and to name the FNG – Man Hands.
Announcements- First Friday Lunch. Meal Train for Sputnik.
COT – Our two running groups did great today. On D-Day many things did not go to plan and many rendezvous’ points were missed. Leadership and max effort made the Normandy Invasion a military strategic success.
