Q: Hard Hat

I’ve wanted to lead a summer themed workout since mid February, all because of a song that popped up on a playlist around that time. I wanted to wait until the weather was warm enough to wear a tank top, and I had the opportunity to Q. I first thought I was going to get that in March, but the weather turned before a Q I had, so I had to save it for another time. This time, the weather was perfect for it! I had lots of ideas for this workout, and had to settle on just a few to make this an epic summer workout. The other ideas will have to be saved for another Q. I showed up early to drop off a surprise before any prerunners showed up. Griswold, Smashmouth, and Stella joined me on a prerun.
Welcome: As the clock turned 5:30am, the Q was still trying to connect his new phone with his speaker. As much planning that went into this workout, you’d think he would’ve been a little more prepared. He went on with the welcome to F3, and ask for new guys, then the connection finally happened. It was definitely feeling like this guy had no idea what he was doing, and just wanted to chill. It should be noted that the Q was wearing pink board shorts, a blue tank, and a beach bum wig. After fumbling through the core principles and disclaimer, he asked if anyone felt like running. Most did not… neither did the Q. The music was flowing, and the group made their way to the grassy area in the “U” of the school (side note: if that area does not already have a name, it should be given one).

Warmarama: The warmup started nice and easy with some Big One’s OYO , then tater taps, then switch to tappy taps. Some SSH were thrown in, and maybe something else (I don’t recall). I was just waiting for the song to switch. Once Billy Squire’s “Stroke” came on, we went for a “swim”! PAX did a superman with arms stretched out forward. They kicked their legs as if swimming, and whenever the song said “Stroke” they’d do a breaststroke. This had a great awkwardness to it and the PAX were told to recover before the song was finished. We then did some Moroccan night clubs with a boogie for a little while, and again were waiting for the next song. Once “Ocean Eyes” came on, we got into position to perform OYO pickle pushers while gazing into the eyes of the men across the circle from you. Even through there was repeated direction to look into their eyes, many PAX refused. Oh well. We were ready for the Thang anyways.

Thang: Somekind of Dora style thang. The PAX partnered up and were informed that one partner would grab a surprise coupon by the Buddy Bench and do an exercise with it. The other partner would run to the base of the hill, Bernie Sanders up, do a surfer merkin, then lunge walk down to the bottom and run back to relieve his partner. The exercises at the bench were to a cumulative rep count, and all exercises were to 200 reps before switching to the next exercise. Exercises were; Squat w/ curl, overhead press, kettlebell swings. Ohana was called at 6am, and the PAX carried coupons back to the flags.

6MOM: Once the coupons were returned, we dropped for some Heels to Heaven, some flutter kicks, and some Rancid Flanders (Rancid Hammers were called, starting with Flanders, and it was dubbed Rancid Flanders).

Closing: There were announcements for Brickbuilder, the APEX, and prayer request for Bovine and E85 who are going to have kids soon. As I recapped my plan for the workout in my head, I jumped in the shower around 9:30pm and realized that I hadn’t planned out a COT yet. A thought came to mind from listening to the Glue-OOM about being vulnerable. I thought about how many times I’ve been vulnerable in a COT, and don’t think it’s been very often. I thought about how I am around others, and how I am by myself. When around others, I push myself to be my best. When I’m by myself though, I’m not like that. I’m quite a slacker in my opinion. F3 has been great for me to push myself in many ways, but I rely on it a lot to help push me in ways that I cannot myself. There’s times I even consider changing up my job so that I’d be a lot busier and not have as much time to myself. There’s a lot of times that I just fall into a routine and am not doing much accelerating, and feel like a sad clown even though I’m posting almost every day. Recognize that you or other PAX might keep posting but still feel like a sad clown at times. Recognizing and finding ways to pull yourself out is a great task. Hopefully you can spot this in others and help to pull them out as well.

Aye!
