Q: Hard Hat
With a Star Wars themed pre-blast, it was anticipated that might bring out a few PAX to DZ that maybe wouldn’t have otherwise posted there. Upon arrival 2 minutes after the prerun began, it seemed as though there might be a decent sized group. YHC was anticipating around 20, which was how the workout was planned. I ran around the site a bit to gauge areas for use, and to see what route might work best for what was planned. Arriving back at the shovel flags, it became clear that there might be a larger group than expected. As guys started to surround the flags, I jokingly said to a few PAX “you wanna see me make up a workout on the fly?”. There was a whole lot of that that ended up happening, because my initial plan was not going to work with this size of group and trying to keep everyone together.
Welcome: As 5:15am rang in, I welcomed the PAX to Danger Zone, asked for new guys, which there were none, and went on with the core principles, credo, mission, and disclaimer. I also asked if there were any Star Wars fans in the group. Many guys raised their hands or hollered “hell yeah!”. I informed them that they’d be disappointed, because this would not be a Star Wars themed workout. With that, we moseyed to the North end of the school near the dreaded hill (not sure what it’s typically called).
Thang: Paradise South? As PAX arrived, they could either do Monkey Humpers until the 6 gets in, or go back to pick up the 6. This would be the standard throughout the workout as we progressed around to different locations. Here the Star Wars fans got a little satisfaction with 25 IC Imperial Walkers for warmarama. That was it though. We counted off in 3’s to get 3-man groups for a grinder of sorts. One guy would be at the ramp railing doing inverted rows, another would be at the top of the hill doing T-Merkins, and the other would run down the hill and Bernie Sanders up. The T-Merkins were AMRAP, and the rows were a cumulative rep count to 200 for the group. Once the first group reached 200 rows, they yelled out “Carpenter” to inform the rest of the group that we were complete. After a 10 count, we moseyed on to the front of the school and down 108th St. stopping at the sign near the middle of campus entrance. Here we did some Moroccan Night Clubs, shook out our legs, and pretended there was good music in the air. After a bit, we continued on down the road stopping at the “bridge”. Here we counted off again to pair up with just one partner. One guy would do ATG (Ass to Grass) squats, up to 300 cumulative reps, and the other would bear crawl across the street, hop the wooden fence, do one burpee, hop the fence, and bear crawl back. We had a little traffic encounter, and they were nice and waited for us for a while, and we eventually had to just pause and signal to them to come on through. The first pair to 300 yelled out “electrician” to signal completion for the group. We then walked a little ways back toward the school, until the walk became a mosey, which diverted off the sidewalk and up a hill to the baseball fields. There’s an opening near the batting cage we could enter to access the space beyond the outfield fence, and in this area was an infield with bases that we ended up running. Heading back towards the school, the rest of the gates were locked (this was known thanks to prior workout scouting), so we hopped the fence to get back on our way to the football field. We passed a hard hat area (no sign, but definitely a construction zone), and made our way to the only access onto the field. There we lined up on the goal line, with our partners, and one guy would do X-factors while the other would run to the 20, then caveman duckwalk back to relieve his partner. This was supposed to go to 150 cumulative reps, but “Mason” was called early because we need to wrap things up. We circled up and did Rancid style Sarpy Slammers to close things out.
Closing: There were announcements for Brickbuilder, 1st Friday Lunch, 3rd F opportunity next weekend, and Nelly’s VQ tomorrow. No prayer requests. COT: I told the group that although today is Star Wars day, it’s also something else. I asked if anyone knew what it was, and no on responded. It’s National Skilled Trades Day! That is why I had asked to Q today, and why we called out different trades at the completion of the stations. I just ask that anyone that has influence over young folks that aren’t sure what they want to do with their lives, you could let them know how great of an option the trades are. You could even send them my way to get trained up at MCC. Enough of a plug for that though. I had planned something else for my COT, but last Wednesday I misunderstood the announcement about Paradise Island changing locations, and I initially thought that today was the last day that Paradise would be at Paradise. I was bummed that I would miss the event, because I had been there (at Paradise) for many significant events before (the launch, the last workout before the shutdown, etc.). I had mentioned this at coffee last Wednesday, and immediately Cheap Seats and Yogi offered to take my Q, so I could go to Paradise and not miss the sure-to-be emotional day. Well, I come to find out that last Wednesday was the last time the AO would be at Paradise, so I had already missed it. I had already made up my mind that I wasn’t going to bail on a Q, because it was my fault that I haven’t been to Paradise in so long (probably 10 months). That moment of FOMO when I first thought I was going to miss it, has happened many times to me in F3. There are just so many things going on all the time now, almost every day. Give up on trying to make it to everything, but don’t wait so damn long to post somewhere different if that’s something you enjoy doing. I love going to all of the different sites, but sometimes I just post where it’s most convenient, which there’s nothing wrong with. Just don’t let the FOMO suck you in, and do the best you can.
Aye!
