In F3 we “embrace the suck” and do the hard things, like getting up at 5 am and working out with men in all kinds of weather, including rain, wind and -20 degrees in the snow. But the suck only lasts an hour or two and we go back to our comfortable homes and workplaces for the day. Going through “the wilderness” is like embracing the suck, except you can’t get out of it after a couple hours. Sometimes we feel we’re in the wilderness for months. And it’s important during the wilderness to not try to run away from it and go to our vices. Instead, we need to do 2 things:
- Keep walking. Continue doing the basic things in life that need to be done and continue being in community. Some examples are keep coming to F3 in the mornings when you don’t feel like it because you know it’s good for you. Another example is do the regular household chores.
- Don’t lose hope. It’s very tempting to spiral down and lose hope and lose all desire to do anything. Don’t give up. And it’s important to surround yourself with community that will encourage you. It’s another reason F3 is so important for us men.
So keep walking and don’t lose hope. The wilderness won’t last forever.
