The last one to the tree will choose an exercise of the two I give them and the first one there will choose the number of reps we do and then lead them.

Lost

Stand still.

The trees ahead and bushes beside you are not lost.

Wherever you are is called Here.
And you must treat it as a powerful stranger,
Must ask permission to know it and be known.
The forest breathes.

Listen.

It answers, I have made this place around you. If you leave it, you may come back again, saying “Here”.
No two trees are the same to Raven.
No two branches are the same to Wren.
If what a tree or a bush does is lost on you,
You are surely lost.

Stand still.

The forest knows where you are.

You must let it find you.

There are times when I feel lost, even on the path that I have intentionally set before me. The one that carries a heavy cargo of responsibility seeming to reveal a new identity of myself that is ever changing. It is in these times forging this new path, where the unknown feels like a white out in a snowstorm, or opportunity to reach for a momentary destructive distraction, or I lose track of the forest through the trees.

It is in times like these where I reach for poems like these, words, or walks with friends that provide clarity as to what a tree does. It’s not a lazy task by any means, by an action rooted in awareness. Awareness of where we are, who we are, who we love and why we need to listen more than talk. Give yourself the gift of listening, absorbing today and hearing the forest whisper “you are Here”.
