Q: Golden Pike

Setup
It was a brisk, snowy Friday morning. The snow was slick and wet. There were a couple groups of pre-runners and a couple ruckers. GP surveyed the white wonderland with a sense of fulfillment and a taste for pain!
At 5:30 GP stated the five core principles, the creedo and talked about how awesome it has been to be in F3 for three years so far. There were no FNGs.
Warmarama
Took the guys on to the edge of the field and we circled up. We started with:
15x Cherry pickers
15x Morrocan night clubs
15x Raise the roofs
15x Merkins
15x SSHs
Pre-Thang
Moseyed up the stairs on the east side of the field and outside the field area to the parking lot. Using a glow-in-the-dark football we played “dumbball”.
What is dumb ball? A guy from the group kicks or throws the ball towards the bowl area on the other side of the parking lot. The group as a whole goes to the ball until the six is in. That’s it.
We played this until we got to the bowl area.
Thang
Circled up around the cone at the bottom of the bowl. There were four sleds ready. I counted each of the guys so they were in four groups and could do a grinder with the smaller group. The grinder consisted of:
One guy stays down in the circle and does air squats.
Another guy runs up the hill with the sled and then hands it off to his teammate. Then, he starts doing the exercise at his given station.
The guy he handed the sled to slides down the hill and goes “WHEEEEEEEE!!!!”.
There were five stations:
- CDDs.
- Freddy Mercuries
- Alternating Lunges
- Plank Jacks
- Rosalitas.
Teams rinsed and repeated after they got through all the stations.
We then moseyed back to the shovel flag.
6MOM
I called on different guys to do different exercises, but I focused on the guys with their next VQs and Qs coming up. We did 30s plank, dying cockroaches, and gas pumpers.

I told a bit about my story of getting EH’d by Z-Bo and Black Flag and how I was a tad disappointed in my name, but after a while it grew on me. Now, I don’t want any other name. I’m proud that my name is confusing as hell because it’s only one letter off from the site Golden Spike! I also am just thankful to have a tribe in F3 and the encouragement I give to new guys to stick it out this long is just put away all excuses and come out. Come even when it’s cold and miserable. Come even if you think no one will miss you (they will). Come even if you think it’s too early and you might not get enough sleep. Just keep coming and you’ll see the benefits.
