I arrived at the AO shortly before this morning’s pre-run to setup for the beatdown. I was really excited for this morning’s Q as I had yet to post at Sarpy’s newest AO, The Tombstone. We had a great group of pre-runners this morning that tackled a very difficult pre-run. It is as challenging as advertised.
Following the pre-run, I welcomed the PAX to the Tombstone. We didn’t have any FNGs this morning, but Cougar was another first-timer to the Tombstone. I started off by informing the PAX that at F3 we have a Mission Statement which is to “plant, grow and serve small workout groups for the invigoration of male community leadership.” We also have five core principles:
- Free of charge
- Open to all men
- Always outside
- Led in a rotating fashion
- We will end in a circle of trust (COT)
Our F3 Credo is that we will leave no man behind, but leave no man where we found him. Lastly, I reminded that PAX that I am not a professional and to modify today’s beatdown as needed.
Warm-O-Rama
Following the intro, we started our watches and spread out in the parking lot for some Warm-O-Rama.
We completed:
- 20 SSH IC
- 10 Sun Gods-IC (Forward and Reverse)
- 10 Big Ones-IC
- 10 Tappy Taps-IC
The Thang
We jumped straight into the Thang. I knew we wouldn’t have time to complete it if we had a pre-thang, so we got straight to business. Today’s Thang…a seven of diamonds beatdown.
Round 1: 7 Burpees – bear crawl between the four corners
Round 2: 14 Jump Squats – lunge walk between the four corners
Round 3: 21 Big Boys – super mario between the four corners
Round 4: 28 Werkins – run between the four corners
Round 5: 21 Groiners – super mario between the four corners
Round 6: 14 Heels to Heaven IC – lunge walk between the four corners
Round 7: 7 Burpees – bear crawl between the four corners
We called OMAHA at 0607. We fell just short on time, PAX were able to complete two of the four sets of the final round of Burpees. I think everyone, myself included, was grateful that time on the beatdown had expired.
We moseyed back to the shovel flag and completed Sarpy Slammers in the parking lot.

COT
I shared with the PAX that I had been in Kansas City over the weekend for my daughter’s gymnastics competition. Last year, my daughter competed very well, ended the season on a high note and leveled up as a result. This last weekend was her first meet of the season, and it was her worst meet ever. It was difficult watching her because I could see how down she was on herself as she was making mistakes that she generally doesn’t make. As a parent, watching your kid experiencing that kind of hard, raw emotion…you just want to do what you can to take it away.
What I noticed though was that while she was wiping away tears and watching her teammates compete, she was doing her best to force a smile, giving high fives and hugs. She was being the kind of teammate and person that any coach would want on their team. I left the gym feeling so proud of her for her resiliency and ability to lift those around her even though she was having terrible day.
On the drive home, my daughter fell asleep and my wife was watching the Steelers game on her phone (she is a massive Steelers fan). That left me alone with my thoughts for a while. I’ve been dealing with some stressors at work, which I began thinking about and my mind spiraled into a very negative space in a short period of time. In the midst of this, in the quiet, my wife yelled reacting to one of the plays in the game. It startled me and I snapped at her, and was in general, just a mean jerk about the whole thing.
I had just gotten done feeling so proud of my daughter for being kind to others when in a negative head space. I missed the moment and chose to drag others down when I was in that space. I encouraged the PAX to learn a lesson from my kiddo and do your best to support those around you even when things get difficult for you personally.
Until next time!
Boss Hogg
