QIC: Gator
It was a honor to kick off Slick’s tenure as the Site Q by Q’ing at F3 Omaha’s weirdest AO: The Trident. When I saw that it happened to be National Two Different Colored Shoes Day, I knew it was time for the weirdness to begin…
At 5:15am, Ozark and I started unloading coupons, clipboards, and cones. First to arrive was the Trident’s founder, former Site Q, and Sexiest PAX Alive: Roadhouse.
More and more PAX arrived… Then the prerunners triumphantly returned. Many PAX believe Trident has the hardest prerun. That is correct. But give the Armory’s a try some time – Slow Pitch is a biiiiiiiiiig fan (cha)!
At 5:30 AM, it was an honor to welcome these 18 BAMFS to the gloom:
Slick, Convoy, Beiber, Chiclets (respect), Almost Famous, Room Service, Roadhouse, Q-Tip (respect, respect), Obi-Wan, Sparty, Hoser, Wait Time (respect), Big One, Welchs, Armbar, Ozark (respect), Vandelay (respect), and Blades of Glory.
The Q hit the F3 Omaha intro high points and then explained why I and some other PAX members were wearing two different colored shoes. Our Burpee Trivia would be two truths and a lie style – the PAX has to pick the lie out of three shoe-related statements. First up: Slick!
#1
- Stilettos get their name from a Latin word meaning small knife.
- ADIDAS is an acronym for All Day I Dream About Sneakers (Wait Time was on board with this one until the last word)
- Platform heels were worn by the Greeks to symbolize their status in society. The higher the platform, the higher their social standing.
Answer: Slick didn’t have cold feet in correctly answering that B is a lie. Adolf “Adi” Dassler started the company.

#2: Roadhouse jumped in with both feet for the next trivia question:
- Reebok is a British word that means “dance”
- According to fashion historians, an Italian noblewoman named Catherine de Medici is believed to have been one of the first women to wear heels. (The Q had a fun time having a fake Italian accent)
- As a result of losing a bet, a German film director named Werner Herzog cooked his shoe in duck fat and garlic and ate it before a live audience.
Roadhouse would not be pushed back on his heels for this question. He knew the Correct Answer: A is a lie. Reebok is actually the Afrikaans/Dutch spelling of rhebok, a type of African antelope or gazelle.

We all lined up facing west with each PAX displaying a coupon at his feet. We would do three merkins on each coupon (Right hand elevated; Both hands elevated; Left hand elevated) and then move to the right while staying in plank. When a PAX reached the end of the chain, you run to the back and keep going until the anchor PAX (played by Armbar) completed.
About 54 Merkins and five minutes later, we finished.
Time for..

The Q heard Hoser mention he enjoyed trivia, so he graciously volunteered for the next question:
#3
- It is against the law for anyone with smelly feet in a theater in Winnetka, Illinois, to take off their shoes.
- In 2018, Payless ShoeSource was rebranded “Palessi” by new owner, Italian designer Bruno Palessi. (more bad Itialian accent from the Q)
- It was believed that tossing old boots at departing ships would ensure that the sailors returned home safely
Hoser clicked his heels three times and correctly answered: B is a lie. This was actually a prank that Payless pulled.

Around this time, Sparty was coming in from his run and was asked to volunteer for the last trivia question. He jumped in with both feet.
#4
- Right and left shoes weren’t made until 1818 in Philadelphia. Before that, both shoes were identical.
- Men were the first to wear heels.
- Women did not wear boots until Nancy Sinatra’s 1966 hit “These Boots are Made for Walkin”
Answer: Sparty kicked it right between the uprights. C is a lie. It was Queen Victoria that first popularized boots for women in the 1800s.
Countarama: 19 PAX
Namearama: I was proud to keep the Selfie-Namearama going! (Harder than it looks!)
COT:
You can take lots of things away from the metaphor of wearing two different colored shoes. For me, it remined me of the problems we carry around inside us that are not visible to others when we are just wearing ordinary shoes. And, seriously, how often do you really look at another man’s shoes? But when you wear two different colored shoes, people can’t help but notice. This made me think about how much better I feel when I talk about the tough things that are going on with me in my life. And how much worse it is to keep those things inside. I also thought about how much courage and strength I have seen in the PAX that share what they are going through.
I would encourage you to share with others and to ask them to share with you. In my experience, it helps. It’s not a perfect solution, but it does seem to help. So put on those two different colored shoes and lean into to your brothers.
Then I talked about some of what has been going on with me and my relationship with my parents. I have recently had so many discussions with PAX that have gone through (or are still experiencing) similar situations. Each time, I felt better after talking with them. Thank you to those PAX, everyone who wore different colored shoes, all those who posted today, and thank you for listening to me or letting me listen to you. I appreciate all of you in F3 – thank you. It’s been weird.
With Gratitude,
Gator
