Q: Barn Door
10 (+ 2 Ruckers) PAX arrived at the Flags and heard the Core principles, Mission, and disclaimer.
March is F3 Mental Battle month, so today I am sharing a few statistics dealing with Men’s mental health. The beatdown is meant to bring awareness, push yourselves individually, and then have time to mumble chatter with your brothers and help carry each other’s burdens.
We visited a few memorable sites around the Maize in the process.
We completed Warm-a-rama at the shovel flags which consisted of 15 IC each: SSH, Tappy Tap, Imperial Walkers, and Cherry Pickers
The Pre-THANG
In 2020, men died by suicide 3.88x more than women. Though men experience a higher rate of suicide, they are less likely to seek help and more prone to suffering in silence. Depression, when left untreated, can in some cases reach a crisis point of suicidal contemplation. Be sure to reach out for support if you are struggling.
The PAX individually sprinted up and moseyed down Atlas four times. – This is meant to represent the individual struggles men face which is pushing them to suicide at a rate almost 4 times that of women.
The THANG
We moseyed to the new fork in the path along F street to find a couple coupons conveniently waiting for us. I asked the PAX to rifle carry the coupons from station to station and push themselves to carry it the entire way, but lower it or hand it off if necessary. This is meant to represent the weight we all carry around and sometimes need help to relieve it.
I had planned 4 stops along the path leading around the block of the park to see some familiar Maize locations.
Stop 1 – Guardrails along F street
- Nearly 1 in 10 men experience some form of depression or anxiety but less than half seek treatment. Feeling depressed or anxious is not unusual or shameful.
- Dips: 10
- Werkins: 10
- Diamonds: 10
Stop 2 – Intersection of F and S HWS Cleveland Blvd
- About 6 out of every 10 men experience at least one trauma in their lives. PTSD can develop weeks, months, or even years after an experienced trauma, and can cause a person to relive the traumatic event, experience nightmares or flashbacks, and a number of other troubling symptoms that interfere with their everyday life.
- Johnny Dramas on Curb: 10
- Lunges: 10
- Jump Squats: 10
Stop 3 – The Hill near the crossing to the Lake path
- Men are almost two times more likely to binge drink than women, and are three times as likely to die as a consequence of alcohol abuse. It’s important to drink responsibly and avoid driving or operating heavy machinery while intoxicated.
- Partner Carry Up hill (Alt: Lunge Walk up hill): 2
- Bunny hop up hill: 2
- Bernie Sanders up hill: 2
Stop 4 – Near the new park
- 49% of men feel more depressed than they admit to the people in their life. A survey of more than 1,000 men commissioned by the Today Show revealed the truth that many men are much less likely to voice struggles with mental illness and even thoughts of suicide.
- LBC: 49
- Freddy Mercury: 49
- Flutters: 49
Omaha was called after station 4 as we headed back to the shovel flags for Mary.
6MOM consisted of:
- 1 round of Rancid style American Hammers

- DJ’s Dugout 180th and Q on the Thursday
- LPC, Sasquash, Billboard hosting a party on the Friday at their office.
- Maize shirt order is still open.
Prayers:
- Sgt Pencils friends mother had a stroke and has a long road to recovery.
- Bogey’s wife has a professor that is currently MIA. Wellness check has been performed, but she still hasn’t heard anything
- Bogey’s previous co-worker passed away from lung cancer.
- Bogey challenged everyone to hold open the door for someone today to honor his friend.
- Tea Party’s wife is having surgery for breast cancer next week.
Circle of Trust:
There may not always be clear signs you’re dealing with a serious issue, not just a bad day. If your life satisfaction seems to have taken a knock or feeling like you want to be alone a lot, there could be more going on. Here are some of the common signs and symptoms associated with mental illness:
- Anger, irritability, or aggressiveness
- Noticeable changes in mood
- Difficulty sleeping
- Avoiding friends and social activities
- Constant low energy
- Drug or alcohol abuse
- Ignoring personal hygiene
Men often feel embarrassed or uncomfortable talking about their mental health. But the bravest thing you can do is tackle the issue before it becomes a bigger problem. You are not alone. Many other people are going through the same emotions and struggling to find the best way to cope.
I urge everyone in this circle and in all of F3Omaha to open up and share about any struggles you may be working through. F3Omaha will not judge, we are just here to help in anyway possible. We may not have all the answers, but we will help lead in the right direction.
If you feel you are struggling through something that is unique to you, I guarantee it is not. It may not be your brother to the left or right of you right now that is struggling with it, but someone in F3 Omaha or someone in F3Nation is struggling with it also.
Barn Door led us out in prayer.
Aye!
