The Thang: Deconstructed Burpees 3.0 and See You when I See You
Folsom had the PAX partner up for the beatdown. The partners then ran around the island in
opposite directions. Once the partners met on the other side, one partner held a plank while the
other partner did 10 each of Groiners, Merkins, and Jump Squats. Each exercise represented a
part of a burpee. Once done with those three exercises the partners ran around in opposite directs
again, only when the met on the other side the partners switched who planked and who did the
exercises. We got around the island 5 or 6 times before Folsom was embarrassed by the Taylor
Swift coming from his boombox and called Omaha after about 15 minutes of the thang.

COT: Don’t object to yourself. Folsom shared a story of a recent court case where he didn’t
have the right witness to get in a crucial piece of evidence. It was DNA test results, but Folsom
didn’t have anyone from the lab or an expert in the area lined up to testify. Folsom thought for
sure that he wouldn’t be able to get any testimony about or the print out of the results into
evidence because the other side would surely object. But Folsom figured, why not ask the
questions and see what happens. To Folsom’s shock and dismay, no one objected to numerous
questions about the test results. To top it all off, Folsom offered the results themselves and no
one objected to that either. If Folsom had listened to the little voice inside his head telling him
that he couldn’t do it, he wouldn’t have asked the questions or offered the results. But Folsom
didn’t object to his own questions and made the effort and got the crucial evidence in before the
judge, hopefully winning his case. The moral of the story? If you think you can’t do something,
then you’re going to be right. But if you tackle it with optimism and hope and say, I think I can,
you just might succeed.
