CONDITIONS: Twenty-five degrees with a slight north wind.

PAX: Flying V, Doll Face (respect), Spreadsheet, Halogen (respect), Hooah (respect), Stitches, Polaroid, Ozark (downrange from Naperville), Vila, Hipster (respect x3), Hindsight, Slow Pitch, Frosty (respect).

QIC: Rocket

Rocket presented the mission, values, and credo. No FNGs were present, but Ozark was in town from the Chicago ‘burbs and it was the first time at Futurama for both Vila and Halogen.

WARM-A-RAMA at the Rose Garden

20 Hipsters (the exercise’s namesake encouraged beginners to rest halfway through)

15 Chinooks

15 Overhead Claps

10 Big Ones

10 Tappy Taps

15 Monkey Humpers

PRE-THANG at the Memorial Wall. Werepeated the following three times through:

5 Burpees

15 Australian Mountain Climbers

10 Donkey Kicks

Rocket asked a trivia question to begin each round:

Which Omaha-bred Heisman Trophy winner is listed among the fallen on the memorial?

A: Benson High’s Nile Kinnick

Who won the 1968 Heisman Trophy and later had the trophy taken away?

A: OJ Simpson (not a HIM!)

Name the lone state capital without a McDonald’s.

A: Montpelier, Vermont

PAX were able to skip one set of burpees when someone got O.J. Unfortunately, Westside High’s Nick Nolte was neither a Heisman winner nor a war hero. And “New Hampshire” is not a state capital.

THE THANG

Three-man grinder with Station A under the giant statue and Station B on the other side of the circle drive.

Station A: AMRAP Air Squats, Bobby Hurleys, and Sumo Squats.

Partner B: AMRAP Merkins, Alternating Shoulder Taps, and Werkins.

Mumble chatter, grunting, and some complaining ensued until Omaha was called.

MARY

Heck no. This is Futurama.

COT

The other day, I saw a beautiful sunrise. I recalled how often I ignore little moments of beauty because I’m focused on my daily routine: checking email before work, dropping my son at daycare, etc. Too often we look forward to big occasions to find beauty. We wait for a vacation before appreciate time with our spouse. We look forward to a solar eclipse before looking for beauty in nature. But beauty is all around us every day. Life is too short to ignore it. Try to take some time each day to appreciate the beauty in the people, places, and things that surround us.

Rocket closed in prayer.
