Q: Truly
Weather: 70 F; wind around 5-10 MPH
I got some Born in the USA going and the crew started to gather. I didn’t know it, but the bridge of my nose was bleeding from an unfortunate monkey bar incident about 30 minutes prior while doing a pre-Murph with Hard Hat. I came from the pull up bar and turned to head back to the basketball court where we did Merkins. Took 3 hard steps and bam! …. Right into a bar that I had walked around 5 previous times. Hard Hat did not take me through concussion protocols. Just gave me some smelling salts and said sack up – like the bad ass he is.
Pre-Thang
Let’s mosey! We had to make tracks down to the Countryside Community Church basketball court which is .75 miles from the Flag Site. We stopped a couple times to get things stretched out and let the PAX catch up and run together.
The Thang: Free throws and the Hill.
To start we did some layup lines. Started with left hand lay ups first. Which I think really threw the group off. Lot of sloppy play! That and the irrigation sprinklers had saturated the court so bouncing the ball in a puddle went poorly. But the PAX got the flow going and we switched over to right hand layups. Once I felt we were in the groove, it was time to turn up the heat.
I asked a member of the PAX to come out and shoot a free throw. Make it, and we just do leg exercise. Miss? And we had to run the hill up to the parking lot outside the court. Long story short, we had 4-5 shooters and only 1 made free throw. So… we ran a lot of hills. On top of the leg exercises.
Time ran out quickly down on the streetball court, so we had to head it back to the Flags. Once again, we stopped a few times to get some work in and let the PAX travel as one.
Once back, we just did a couple rounds of American Hammers to complete our beat down.
I brought some sparklers and thought we’d have some fun with the name o rama. I used Slick’s phone which allowed me to keep bumping some Katy Perry – Firework. We all lit up and it actually worked pretty well. No one caught on fire. Safety first.
I also snuck a can of Truly, filled with water, out the circle and did my first ever real Truly Chug. Thanks to 75 Hard, drinking water comes pretty naturally for me now – so getting that thing crushed was no problem!
Maybe someday, it will be a real Truly. When I have a day off.
COT:
I had just spent the 4th of July out at the Lake. And I wanted to put more thought into the Holiday than usual. The 4th is slowly becoming one of my favs. The only one that can still top it IMO is Thanksgiving. I spent 2-3 really digging into what the fore fathers had to be thinking – the pressure they were under – how hard they found to make a country free. I’m sure like many of you, I can’t imagine anything different. If I want to have 10 kids, I can. If want no kids, that’s my option. I can work. I can marry who I want. Practice religion how I choose. And I have the freedom to respect everyone’s else’s way of life. Or to not respect it.
I just asked the PAX to think about the freedoms they have and to not take them for granted. Simple and to the point.
See you in the Gloom,
Truly
