QIC: Wait Time

YHC welcomed the PAX to Beverly Hills. For Sweet Roll, it was his first post at the site. After covering the mission, credo, principles and disclaimer – we talked about today’s theme – Memento Mori – a meditation on our own mortality. Memento Mori offers us perspective and a sense of urgency in how we live our lives. Hopefully, everyone gets a beatdown and no one dies. After the welcome, the funeral march began with some Broga.

COT: MEMENTO MORI – A MEDITATION ON OUR MORTALITY

“When a man knows he is to be hanged in a fortnight, it concentrates his mind wonderfully.” Dr. Johnson

In 2022, “TRUTH” was my theme. In some areas of my life, it took months of reckoning with hard truths. Most of the fears that were barriers to my truth existed in my mind. Being temporarily and sporadically paralyzed by fear seemingly made me feel “stuck.” It is not a life that I seek to perpetuate. So, in 2023 my theme is “FIERCE.” Shout out to Slick for his wonderful COT on “FIERCE vs. FEAR.”

Fierce exists in that spirit of courage. At a very basic level, fierceness and courage are about action. I seek to be be FIERCE in the face of fear, even when circumstances are not ideal.

A meditation on mortality offers perspective. Every culture teaches a lesson of memento moriremember you are mortal.”

It is easy to forget how light our grip on life really is. I am fierce but I am not invincible. I am mortal. In light of that mortality, how do I live with fierceness?

Memento mori makes me live…

…to love people and express that love.
…to align my values with how I spend my time, and devote that time where it matters most.
…to see people and listen to their stories.
…to avoid gossip, trivial pursuits and a need to compare myself to others.

Memento mori creates a sense of urgency and perspective. It reminds me that all things are temporary – the good things in life and the challenges.

We ended the workout in prayer.

Grace & Peace,

Wait Time
