Q: Boss Hogg
It was a beautifully cool morning at Mount Olympus. I arrived early to setup feeling pretty excited about the day. I have always had a fondness for M.O. My first post was there, my VQ, and it has hosted some of the most difficult and memorable beatdowns that I’ve participated in. One could say I was feeling happy, which I would discuss during my COT.
I welcomed the PAX promptly at 0515 where we covered the five core principles, the F3 Mission Statement, the F3 Credo, and I informed the PAX that I am not a professional and to modify the exercises as necessary.
The group circled up in the parking lot to complete a brief Warm-o-Rama consisting of:
· 15 SSH IC
· 10 Tappy Taps IC
· 10 Big Ones IC
· 10 Moroccan Night Clubs IC
The Pre-Thang
The group picked up their coupons and moseyed down to the football field. We circled up on the track and completed:
· 15 Thrusters, 15 Curls
· 20 Thrusters, 20 Curls
· 15 Thrusters, 15 Curls
· 10 Thrusters, 10 Curls
The Thang
The Pax began to partner up as I explained the Thang. Cones were setup at 15 yards, 30 yards, and 45 yards. From the start line, one partner would double coupon farmer carry to the first cone, then drop one coupon and murder bunny to the second cone. From the second cone, they would rifle carry to the final cone where they would then complete 5 Blockees. They would then work the ladder in reverse to the start line to push the other partner to complete the exercises.
While one partner was working through the cones, the other partner would complete 20 Merkins, then any core exercise of their choice AMRAP until pushed.
OMAHA was called at 0550.
The Pax moseyed back to the shovel flags where we completed 14 Sarpy Slammers.
We had one FNG this morning named Scott. There were some high-quality names thrown out there this morning. The FNG was ultimately named, “Purina.”
Harding showed up to drop off the Shield of Ares. Harding was last week’s well-deserved winner, but was unable to attend the beatdown so he dropped it off to G-String with a candidate in mind. Low Flow, lover of coupons, was selected to hold the shield for the week. Low Flow killed it this morning and was deserving of the honor. He’s excited to return to Mount Olympus next week.
Announcements/Prayers
· Heartland Hope Mission running through the end of the month
· Shovel Flag Pass at the Catamount Complex next week. Farva to Low Flow. On-site coffee!
· Prayers were held in our hearts this morning
COT
Last week during a long drive I was listening to a podcast interview of Arthur Brooks. Arthur Brooks is an author, social scientist, and professor at the Harvard School of Business. He runs Harvard’s “Leadership and Happiness Laboratory.”
During the interview, Dr. Brooks references the Harvard Study of Adult Development, which is a one-of-a-kind longitudinal study on what makes a meaningful and happy life. The study incorporated students at Harvard at the time, as well as some participants that did not attend college and were from less-privileged backgrounds. The study followed these individuals throughout the course of their lives as well as their spouses and children. They would be met with periodically to complete interviews, surveys, questionnaires, etc.
The findings showed that there were some factors that predicted happiness and some meaning such as being physically fit, coping with their mental health, and being lifelong learners, to name a few. However, there was one predictive factor that was really the crystal ball on whether someone was feeling happy and fulfilled. That was love. Happiness is love. Happiness is having positive, meaningful relationships with others whether that is having meaningful relationships with our family, close friends, and faith.
I talked about how F3Omaha seems to hit these notes. F3 focuses on making sure that things are right at home; that we’re prioritizing the relationships with our family. There are then of course the relationships that we build and foster in the gloom. Finally, there is the emphasis on faith.
I spoke about placing an emphasis on our social fitness, especially as the weather will be turning cold sooner than we would like. Start preparing for the colder temperatures and continue coming out into the gloom to work your social fitness.
I took the group out in prayer.
Aye!
