AO: The Colosseum

Conditions: -10 deg F, 10 mph E (feels like -22 deg F); buckle up buck-a-roo, it’s a cold one!

The runners were pre-running. The air was crisp. The group was too hard to plant the Flag. Snidely fired up the Heavy Rock Mix to set the mood with 3 Doors Down blasting away, and at 0530, it was time for the beatdown to start.

Core principles, mission, and credo were given. Disclaimer was said. After all that, Penny Marshall decided to come over to hang out with the rest of the group. The cold must have kept the numbers down – there were only four PAX. The original Thang wasn’t going to happen, and Plan B was needed.  

WARM-O-RAMA (0532)

We moseyed to the stadium entrance (like 15 feet away)…

  • SSH x 10 (IC)
  • Windmills x 10 (IC) – the QIC can’t count for crap… so it was fun for a minute.
  • El Chapo Through the Tunnel x 10 (IC)
  • Big Ones x  6 (IC)
  • Cherry Pickers x 10 (IC)
  • Sungods x 10 (IC) each direction

PRE-THANG (0536) – Buy in to the workout

The “Four Corner Merkin Party”

Moseyed to Football Field, and started this party at the NW corner of the football field.

  • At Corner 1 of the football field we completed 10 Merkins.
  • We moseyed CCW to Corner 2 and completed 20 Merkins.
  • We moseyed onto Corner 3 and completed 30 Merkins (it’s getting fun!).
  • The Pax saw the pattern. We finally moseyed to Corner 4 and completed 40 Merkins. What a party!! 100 merkins in total and one lap around the track.

But sadly, the party was over and we had to move on to bigger and better things. So, we went to the center of the football field, and because it was cold, the QIC thought 20 SSH sounded like a good idea.

THE THANG (0543) – Plan B

Well, the Mosh Pit workout was thrown out. It just wouldn’t be the same with four people, but luckily the QIC had a second workout planned in the event there was low turnout.

The QIC cranked up the music and decided that a group exercise beatdown was in order. But there were going to be 50 reps per exercise

  • Merkins
  • Butt Kicks (IC)
  • Raise the Roof (IC)
  • Run 50 yards and Bernie back to stay warm.
  • Flutter Kicks (IC
  • Cherry Pickers (IC)
  • Run a lap(ish) around the track to stay warm.
  • Alt Lunges (IC); 25 sets of forward lunges… 10 count… and then 25 sets of reverse lunges (what really is a set anyway? we probably did 100 lunges IC… Sorry Stella 😉)
  • Freddy Mercury’s (IC)
  • Werkins
  • Run 50 yards and back to stay warm.
  • Monkey Humpers (IC) with a 10 count in the middle
  • LBCs (IC) 
  • And Omaha…

The PAX we’re crusted with frost and breathed heavy as they ran back to the “flag.” The high-rep workout wasn’t what they expect for today, but they passed the #winterwarriorchallege at The Colosseum. Well done.
