PAX (14): Swinger, Stella, Super Tasty, Cosmo, No Cry, Redacted, Cross Check, Samples (R!), Black Lung, Othello, Hat Trick (R!), Chariot, Banksy, Sister Act

Q: Sister Act

It was a beautiful morning – a killer sunrise amidst sparse clouds and just the right temperature! I was excited to get to the AO and get going. Once at the Colosseum, the MainStage flag was planted and some Wienkes were set out at 4 corners of the football field. PAX started to show up, a couple pre-runners rolled, and at 0530 hit, we began. Mission, 5 principles, credo, and disclaimer – check. It was time to roll!

WARMARAMA: PAX moseyed to the shot-put field for some W.

  • 25 SSH IC
  • 15 Goof Balls IC
  • 25 Cherry Pickers IC
  • 10 Big Ones IC
  • 10sec per side 2x Hip/Glute Stretches
  • Burpee Shuffle Race (SSH and burpees around the circle, opposite guys start, if you get caught your “half” has to do 5 more burpees) – NOTE: this didn’t really work, haha. No one caught up to anyone else, so we just went around the circle a few times.

PRE-THANG: PAX moved over to the hill, and were told to pair up with someone they didn’t know too well for 2 man hill work.

  • Bottom position alternates between Merkins and Big Boys
  • Running position runs up the hill, does 15 Monkey Humpers, goes back down

After a few rounds of this, a mini-Omaha was called and we went on to a ‘Tween Thang.

‘TWEEN THANG: PAX were to stay with their partner, at the same pace, as we run up the south street hill and back to the field by way of the main entrance (shovel flags). Each guy was to tell his partner one fun childhood memory!

THANG: On the field, there were 4 stations were set up at 4 corners of the field. PAX counted off and went to their corresponding corner. There was constant movement, some heavy breathing, and good mumble chatter.

  • Station 1 (PUSH): 15 each time: merkins, werkins, Chuck Norris, diamond merkins (RUN 100 YDS)
  • Station 2: AMRAP: LBCs, flutter kicks, heels to heaven, heel touches (SIDE SHUFFLE 50 YDS)
  • Station 3: AMRAP: cherry pickers, overhead press, Moroccan Night Clubs, Sungods (RUN 100 YARDS)
  • Station 4: AMRAP: Copperhead squats, jump squats, air squats, Sumo squats (SIDE SHUFFLE 50 YDS)

MARY: At 0610, Omaha was called and PAX circled up on 50 yd line

  • Sarpy Slammers (Rancid) twice around the circle!

ANNC: All the shovel passes! – go support.

PRAYERS: Swinger’s friend with cancer

COT:

My 12 yr old son left for camp this past Sunday. He’s there for 2 weeks, and this first week, he is going in cold – no friends from Omaha, no one he knows. I asked him while he was riding up there how he felt about it. His first reaction? SO EXCITED! His second – “But nervous.”

His first reaction in the midst of the unknown was excitement – but he was honest enough to tell me about his nervousness.

I wonder if that’s how some of us feel about F3. We’re excited to get out in the gloom to work out and get ourselves in shape – and even meet some new guys. But accountability? Honesty? Vulnerability? Exciting and nervous!

New friends? New commitments? New habits? Exciting and nervous!

Guys in better shape? Guys with better connections? Guys with new shoes??? Exciting and nervous!

Ok, maybe not you – but all these things go through my head every week. That could just be my own self-consciousness or anxiety – and I’m learning more about myself every day. But you know what I said to my son tho after her told me about this? I said, “Well, have so much fun. Make some new friends, and be a LEADER!”

So even in the midst of our nervousness – for legitimate reasons or perceived ones – let us embrace our nervousness and use that energy to be great friends and great leaders. It seemed like good advice for my son, and after reflecting on it, I know it’s advice that at least I need to hear all the time!

Aye!
