Date: 9 January 2024
AO: The Helix – Hillsborough Park, Omaha, NE
Weather: cold/windy/snowy – 26°, Feels Like 13° with wind gusts up to 25+ mph
0500 Prerun (3): Speed Bump, Truly, Toto (had to leave for beatdown)
Beatdown – PAX (6): Nailed It, Speed Bump, Wait Time, Walk About, Truly, Stripes
QIC: Stripes (site-Q swap)
YHC arrived to the AO at 0525. Considering the weather, I was surprised to see several vehicles already in the parking lot and a couple PAX coming back from an abbreviated prerun. Schools were canceled for the second day in a row and the snow had accumulated to 6ish inches and the winds had really picked up and started gusting in the early AM. In order to start moving quicker, YHC did a speed intro welcoming PAX, stated the three F’s, mission statement, five core principles, credo, disclaimer, and could see there were no FNGs so didn’t even ask. And away we went on a little mosey with former site-Q Truly leading the way trying to stay on the snow-covered path to the first set of basketball courts.

THE THANG
Slow jog around the park trying to stay on the snow-covered path stopping at the benches along the way. At each stop, I had each PAX member pick a number from 1-17 and had exercises assigned to each number. I would say the exercise that corresponded to the number the PAX member chose and the PAX member would choose how many of each exercise we completed. Exercises chosen were rosalitas (22), Werkins (22), burpees (10), dips (30), and derkins (25). We finished back at the flags and had each PAX member choose a core exercise and number of reps then finished with 2 rounds of American Hammers rancid style.

COT – Habits
As we’ve started a new year and many have started a new set of goals and resolutions, I talked about how I’m not a big goals guy. This is because if I set a goal that’s too high and don’t achieve it, I feel defeated. Conversely, if I set a goal and achieve it, I have a tendency to become complacent and stop accelerating because I’ve reached my goal. I talked about how I try to focus on habits and routines. For me, it works better to develop good habits and routines and then any milestones, resolutions, or goals I’m trying to achieve will naturally fall into place. I closed by sharing something I saw about habits the other day that was very impactful to me…
Before it’s a habit, it’s uncomfortable.
Before it’s a habit, it’s inconvenient.
Before it’s a habit, you’re bad at it.
Before it’s a habit, it’a an obstacle.
Before it’s a habit, it’s frustrating.
Before it’s a habit, it’s difficult.
Keep showing up!
I felt this was especially fitting because of the weather conditions. The PAX could have easily chosen to fart sack, but they all got out and showed up!
Closed out in prayer.
OORAH!
