Q: Sister Act
YHC was excited to Q – Cornhusker Handicap is a great AO and I knew the Thang in the parking garage would have (at least) me breathing hard. It’s a good thing to look forward to getting beat up a little – it just makes you stronger. PAX showed up ready too, some rolled in hot from pre-runs, and once 0530 hit all were welcomed. Mission, core principles, and disclaimer all said, and then we moseyed to the benches.
WARMARAMA: Mosey to benches, circle up and find a bench
- 20 SSH IC
- 15 dips on benches
- 20 Goof Balls IC
- 15 derkins
- 20 Apollo Onos IC
- 15 incline merkins on bench
After W, YHC gave some instruction on choosing guys of varied abilities when teaming up for the Thang. That’s always a good chance for guys to either push or be pushed, to offer encouragement or look for encouragement. We moseyed to the parking garage and started the Thang.
THANG: mosey to garage behind Genesis, get into groups of 3, varied abilities
- Level 1 – 30 LBCs IC / 30 Freddies IC, run to 2
- Level 2 – 30 Air Squats / 30 Bonnie Single count, run to 3
- Level 3 – Plank 30 sec, Right arm up plank 30 sec, Left arm up plank 30 sec, take stair down
Perhaps a bit too early, groups were told to stay at level 3, and once all groups were there, we went back to the flags for a little post-thang. While groups waited on level 3 tho, it was cool to see guys going back for the 6, dropping into planks with other teams to help finish them out, or just doing extra runs up and down the levels. All gave their best today! Proud of you, gentlemen! Once all groups were done, we moseyed.
POST-THANG: mosey to playground
- Chilcut plank IC Rancid style
- Al Gore IC Rancid style
- Johnny Drama IC Rancid style
- Merkins IC Rancid style
- American Hammers IC Rancid style
NAMARAMA – no FNGs
PRAYERS/ANNOUNCEMENTS – continued prayer and support for Tin Cup, Doll Face’s sister is undergoing breast cancer surgery, Molly at YHC’s son’s school with brain tumor, Polaroid’s colleague sibling passed suddenly
COT: THE HARD PART ABOUT LEAVING A LEGACY
A lot of us want to leave a great legacy. We want people to tell stories about us to future generations that are good and positive and inspiring. We want our kids to be in better places in their future lives because of the example we set. We want better for them than we had. You get it.
I’m learning that the hard thing about leaving a legacy – is that you have to LEAVE IT! In a financial sense of the word legacy, this is easy to understand – a financial legacy will obviously be something that you leave behind. But what about the more intangible things that we work so hard for? It can be hard to leave them. You teach your kids to make wise choices and have to leave them to make those. You lead young professionals at work into being great at what they do and then you have to leave it up to them to do so. You teach people around you to dig in to things like fitness, fellowship, and faith – and then have to leave it up to them to get serious about each one. There’s only so much we can do, right? But if we never give things away (love, knowledge, experience, wisdom), no one’s ever going to get anything of real value from us, and we’ll not create a compelling story for our lives.
And so the leaving and letting go is the thing that not only empowers those we lead, but it’s also the thing we do to create a story for ourselves we’d be proud of. Leave a legacy – leave it. Trust you’re working hard to create a good story, and then leave it to live on in someone else.
Aye!
