COT:
Spend a lot of time thinking about “why” or “how”.
Why things happen
Why me.
How do I fix this problem.
All three of our kids have allergies to milk/dairy. One is allergic to 4 things. Perfect example – why me, why them, why us.
Read “Man’s Search for Meaning” Viktor Frankyl
Holocaust Survivor. Half book on his experience half on his philosophy.
It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life—daily and hourly. Our answer must consist, not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual.
Life is a series of problems, or “challenges”. You can choose to commiserate in them or accept them and find meaning in them.
Book example: Man surviving his wife, depressed for 2 years after her death. Goes to frankyl for help. Asked how he’s doing. Horrible. Asked how his wife would have handled it. Would have been harder for her. His meaning in this, man’s suffering prevented his wife’s greater suffering.
As HIMs, challenge you all to look for the meaning in all of your challenges – no matter the size, so that you can lead your best life and positively impact those around you.
In some ways suffering ceases to be suffering at the moment it finds a meaning, such as the meaning of a sacrifice.
Thank you!! BT
