The Village, Gretna Crossings YMCA, 12358 S. 208th Ave, Gretna, NE 68028

35 degrees, clear & windy.  Cold chill in the air this morning

QIC: Boji (Substitute Q for Yodel who was ill)

10 PAX: Fine Print, Vlasic, Dr. Thunder, Crab Cakes, Minow, Bambi, House Arrest, Hosel Rocket, Hunger Man, Boji

I awoke early this morning to casually get ready to make the trek to Gretna for the beatdown.  As I was brushing my teeth a feeling of terror took over my body as I realized that the beatdown started at 5:15am and not 5:30am.  I quickly finished getting dressed, headed out the door and broke every traffic law known to man to get to the site on time.

Upon arriving at the site, I was greeted immediately by the strong cold wind. As I searched for an area that would create a wind block, I ran into Bambi who was pre-running by himself (he called me Yodel, I will probably never forgive him for that). I also ran into Fine Print, Dr. Thunder & 1 other PAX I could not identify that were rucking.  They let me know that in their opinion, the spot I was looking to set up at was too far from the shovel flags.

I ultimately decided to set up the workout on the fence line next to the soccer fields.  I set up a few lights and headed back to the shovel flags.

At 5:15am I greeted the other PAX and welcomed them to F3 & The Village.  I recited the 5 core principles, mission statement, credo, & let everyone know I was not a professional.  We had no FNG’s.

We circled up in the parking lot next to the flags for Warm-O-Rama:

  • 10 Tappy Taps (IC)
  • 6 Big Ones (3 on each side)
  • 20 Cherry Pickers
  • 10 Sun Gods (Front and Back)
  • 20 Side Straddle Hops (IC)

We moseyed to soccer fields parking lot for “Pre-Thang”

Pre Thang – Bolt 45’s (3X):

  • 15 Top Half Squats
  • 15 Bottom Half Squats
  • 15 Full Squats

We stayed at the fence line next to the soccer fields for “The Thang”.  I split the PAX of in groups of 3 for a 3-man grinder.

The Thang – 3 Man Grinder

The PAX are to complete the exercises in cumulative reps.  One Pax is doing the exercises at one end of the parking lot, one PAX is doing AMRAP Burpees at the other end of the parking lot while the 3rd PAX is running and relieving the PAX doing the exercises:

  • 300 Merkins
  • 300 Side Straddle Hops (Not IC)
  • 300 Big Boys
    • Rinse and Repeat Until Omaha

Omaha was called at 5:47am, we gathered the lights and exercise sheets and headed back to the shovel flags for Mary.

I called on various PAX members to call out 15 reps of their favorite core exercise for Mary:

  • Fine Print called out 15 Flutter Kicks (IC)
  • Vlasic called out 15 LBCs (IC)
  • Dr. Thunder called out 15 Freddy Mercury’s (IC)
  • Crab Cakes started us with a round of Rancid Style American Hammers

COT:

My father-in-law (Tom) oversaw Toys for Tots in Spirit Lake, IA.  One Christmas Eve many years ago he got a call from the sheriff asking him if he had any toys leftover from the toys from the toy drive.  Tom let the sheriff know that he did have extra toys at his office.  The sheriff said he knew of a family that could use some holiday cheer and the two of them could make that happen.

Tom got some leftover food together from his family Christmas Eve dinner while he waited for the sheriff to pick him up.  They stopped by a closed Fareway store and cut down a Christmas tree & put it on top of the sheriff car, stopped by Tom’s office to pick up some toys and headed to the families house.

They pulled into an old farmhouse driveway. They knocked on the door and were greeted by a young mother with 3 children.  The family was huddled in the living room as this room was closed off to the rest of the house by tarps and heated by space heaters and a wood burning fireplace.

Tom and the sheriff told the family that they were there to spread Christmas Cheer.  They set up the Christmas tree, handed over the food and handed the children all Christmas gifts.

As they were walking out the door Tom overheard one of the children say to her mother “See, I told you there is a Santa Clause”.

This time of year is a time for reflection and thanks for all of the gifts that we have in our lives.  It is also a time for us to acknowledge there are those less fortunate than us. It is time of year to step up to the plate to and volunteer, donate and make a positive difference in the lives of those less fortunate.

Thank you to the PAX their support this morning.  Thank you to Lincoln Logs for allowing me to Q “The Village”.  Thank you to Yodel for being sick.

Blessings – Boji
