Date: 12/15/23 | Location: The Bell Tower | Start Time: 5:15 AM | Temp: 38

Title: “ELF”

Total PAX: (11)

Q: G String

PreRunners: Fun Dup, Stranglehold, Korver, and Busser. There might’ve been more, but G String was busy trying to string up his Christmas lights (fail due to a bad outlet).

G String was there early trying to string up some lights on the field, only to find that the outlet at the fieldhouse was bad. No lights for this gloom. As G String threw the lights back in the pickup, PAX with ugly Christmas sweaters and Santa hats began to gather. Although it was drizzling rain, there were smiles and laughter that kept our spirits bright.

At 0515, G String welcomed the PAX to the F3, stating they found themselves at the Bell Tower.  G String stated that F3 stands for fitness, followship, and faith.  He covered 5 core principles – it’s free, open to all men, always outside, it’s led in a rotating fashion, and it ends in a circle of trust.  He told them that we leave no man behind and no man where we found him.  G String stated the Mission Statement of F3 – to plant, grow, and serve small workout groups for the invigoration of male community leadership.  He claimed to not be a professional and asked that PAX modify as necessary.  He asked if there were any FNG’s and there were none.

Warm a Rama:

15 Moroccan Night Clubs

10 Tappy Taps

10 Big Ones

Pre Thing: Jingle bell grinder

The group moseyed down the parking lot to the stairs on the southeast side of the school.  Here G String presented the group with jingle bells and asked them to split into groups of 3. With the odd number, he asked Stranglehold to modify the rotation with him, being the only set of 2.  Three groups of three, one group of two. Perfect.

3 man grinder = Runner up steps with bells in hand. Guy at top does Jack-n-the-Boxes (hold squat, sungods, jump squat up), bottom guy alternating shoulder taps. AMRAP until pushed by bells. After a few times up and down, G String asked the group to mosey over to the field. A couple stopped to shed some face gear at the vehicles.

The Thing: Elf Movie Trivia Game

The group started on the 50 yard line. G String would read 10 questions from the movie ELF.

For each correct answer, the group bear crawled 5 yds to the North pole followed by two sets of 10 of said exercise. For each incorrect answer, the group would crawl bear 5 yards to the South pole, again followed by two sets of 10 of said exercise. The distance in yardage to the north pole was how many reps of merkins the group would do once through 10 questions plus jogging a lap around the track.

The plan was to do hydraulic squats and LBC’s for round 1 and jump squats and big boys for round 2; however, after the first one we realized how sloppy wet the field was and decided to spread the cheer and allow suggestions for other exercises throughout the game. We did combos of imperial walkers, toy soldiers, Jack-n-the-Boxes, knee tucks, and apollo onos.

ROUND 1: The group got all ten correct. No merkins! Just a lap.

    1. Leon
  10. What does Buddy build out of the wooden furniture in the Hobbs’ apartment?
    1. A rocking horse.

ROUND 2: G String gave them an ultimatum. Instead of starting at the 50 yd line, he asked if they’d feel confident enough to go a full 100 yards, each question being 10 yards; however, twice the amount of merkins. They took the gamble and missed 2 questions… 80 merkins.

  10. What did Buddy say when he answered the phone at his father’s office?
    1. “Buddy the Elf, what’s your favorite color?”

After the Merkins with about 7 minutes til 0600, G String called Omaha. Back to the flags for a bonus round!  The group started at 20 burpees. They were asked the question to name the three rules of the Code of The Elves.  For every rule correct eliminates 5. The group got one and was generously granted another, so 10 burpee it was!

  1. Treat every day like Christmas.
  2. There’s room for everyone on the nice list.
  3. The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.

COT:  Switch to first person…

Short and sweet, I explained to them that Elf is my favorite movie around Christmas time because it makes me feel like a kid again.  As I was researching the film for questions to ask for today’s trivia, I found a statement that reminded me why I like it so much.  “Elf is about promoting kindness, staying upbeat, valuing others and knowing that it’s never too late to get removed from the naughty list.” I asked that the guys do just that while we approach Christmas, spread cheer and joy and forgive others and ourselves for our sins so that we can get off the naughty list.

G String prayed us out.

The group then hung out for onsite coffee, eggnog, and Christmas cookies. Twas a memorable morning.

Aye!
