YHC arrived to the AO at 440am and hung out in my car wondering if someone else was going to pre-run with me. And like the shining beacon he is, Al Borland came out of the darkness and graced me with his presence. So we did a quick ~3 miler before heading back to the flags. Was running a bit behind so I hustled up to the soccer fields and put down some lights with instructions.

“The Sausage String”

5 Burpees
10 Diamond Merkins
15 Frozen Freddies (IC)
20 Alternating Shoulder Taps (IC)
25 Merkins

So November marks Pancreatic Cancer Awareness month so I thought I’d have my COT be somewhat reflective of that. Sosome of you know this but my brother in law was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in April. He was 39 at the time and was perfectly healthy, borderline OCD with healthy eating. He went in to the doctor with some stomach cramps/pain one day and what we thought was likely gall bladder stones turned out to be a large mass in his pancreas and in turn, one of the worst forms of cancer.

Im not gonna lie, life’s been tough this year. My wife has been a mess most of the time since April, my in laws are roller coasters emotionally… trying to balance all that out and maintain a normal day-to-day for our family is a shit show usually, at best…but you know who is the one person who has been the strongest thorough-out most of it? My brother in law, the one living the reality. And it’s all driven by his mindset.

His mindset from day 1 has been to lean on God and although he doesn’t know why life threw him this curveball, he believes it will shape his life’s purpose. There’s been No moping around, no “poor me”…heck he went out and ran the next day after his first 48 hour chemo session.

I can’t tell you how many times I get texts from him asking “do you need anything?” And it’s like “listen man, I need to be the one asking that”. Just complete selflessness. But he’s locked in his mindset, living it out and finding his purpose along the way.

This whole thing has really made me reflect on my mindset and how I needed changes in my life to be a better husband, dad, friend, etc…I wasn’t being the best version of myself….and I guess throughout all this verbal diarrhea that’s what I was getting at is to take a step back and examine your mindset on things…work, family, kids, etc. Is that who you want to be? If not, trigger that mindset change.

Closed out in prayer
