Message from the Q:
“Emotions are celebrated and repressed, analyzed and medicated, adored and ignored — but rarely, if ever, are they honored.”
It is okay to feel your emotions, experience them, and most importantly, embrace them. I am saying this to you today because we tend to forget how important it is to experience and express our emotions. Society deems it “taboo” for men to experience their emotions and that we (men) must be almost robotic-like.
Nah, we need to lean into our emotions and embrace them… that is what makes us human, and it is incredibly powerful. Think about it, people may think that crying is a sign of weakness, but newborn babies should be able to cry to indicate they are alive. Emotions fuel our everyday lives and help us gain clarity on any situation. In theatre, we call it “releasing your voice” to be able to “let go” of any tension or negative energy.
I challenge you to give yourself time and grace to experience your emotions. As I told my students, I identify myself as a “Car Crier.” If I ever need to experience sadness, frustration, or anger, I like to sit in my car and cry about it. Ultimately, I feel much better because I allowed myself to experience sadness, frustration, and anger and then realized that I was okay and everything would be okay. I found clarity.
You will be okay.
Lean in and release your voice.

Slick led us in a closing prayer! Thank you, brother!
