Q: Fine Print

YHC arrived at the Tranny Shop promptly at 5:00am to begin setting up. A brisk spring breeze had me worried my incredibly formatted and succinctly worded workout documentation would blow away. I spotted some discarded stones (pun intended) near the Tranny Shop and snagged them. With documents secure, I moseyed over to Brag-N-Rights Bar to set up lights and cones and make up some historical facts about the bar. Obi, Blades and Unicycle moseyed by on a prerun. I stirred with excitement knowing if nothing else at least there’d be four of us competing in the inaugural Tranny Shop Relay. My last stop was around the corner at the Turtle Dove. With setup complete, I sat in my car under the glow of the Tranny Shop sign and pondered what to share during the COT.

I arrived back at North Park and Muffs was there. A few more cars began trickling in and all of a sudden it was 6:00am. Before the flags, 20 HIM were assembled including 2.0s Sharknado, and Ketchup packets, Panther and Dog Man.

YHC recited the 5 core principles, credo, the fine print disclaimer and informed the PAX that today would focus on the 4th secret F, FUN. No FNGs.

The Fine Print: I am not a professional. You have opted to participate today upon your sole discretion. Any of the subsequent activities you partake in shall be performed at your sole risk. You assume all liability for any damages whatsoever resulting to your person or any property. You hereby indemnify me the Q, the F3 Omaha foundation, the Nantan, the site Q and fully release forever into perpetuity the foregoing parties from any and all claims, liabilities, costs, damages, expenses, whatsoever, whether known or unknown, so help you God.

Warm-O-Rama: We slowseyed west towards downtown Gretna. We stopped along the way first at the picnic table pavilion for 15 dips IC. As the PAX moseyed up YHC noticed we had two more HIMs join us (Rowdy and Big Unit) for a total of 22. We continued west and regrouped in front of Mr. Miyagi’s house for 15 monkey humpers. Our trek west finished at the intersection of Angus and McKenna where the magic was about to happen.

YHC gave the PAX a quick tour of downtown and the important historical landmarks that would form the boundaries of the relay race. First, was Brag-N-Rights bar which may or may not be the oldest bar in Gretna. As the urban legend goes, B-n-R earned it’s name because it had consistently been named the #1 bar on the west side of McKenna Avenue. Don’t count how many bars are on the west side of McKenna Avenue. I then led the PAX around the corner to the Turtle Dove where, after explaining the rules of the Tranny Shop Relay, we attempted to split into 2 groups. Kudos to Ozark (1,2 Respect), the designated counter. After a few false starts and unsuccessful attempts, we were able to successfully number off in 2s and split into our teams. It was time for the Inaugural Tranny Shop Relay to begin!

PreThang: The Inaugural Tranny Shop Relay

The PAX split into two teams. Team 1 was “Team Tranny Shop”, Team 2 was “Team Turtle Dove”. Each team would complete the first set of exercises in their respective location and then one team member from each team would run a ½ price coupon to Brag-N-Rights Bar and stack it in their team’s designated location before sprinting back to rejoin their team to complete the next set of exercises. When either team was ready to run their 4th and final ½ priced coupon to the bar, the team ran together, placed the coupon on the stack and sprinted back to their respective location to complete the relay. The relay exercises were as follows:

  • Merkins 20
  • Carolina Drydocks 20
  • Alt Shoulder Taps 20 IC

Take ½ Price Coupon to the Bar

  • Big Boys 20
  • Heals to Heaven 20 IC
  • Flutterkicks 20 IC

Take ½ Price Coupon to the Bar

  • Air Squats 30
  • Bonnie Blairs 30 IC
  • Jump Squats 30

Take ½ Price Coupon to the Bar

  • Mountain Climbers 20 IC
  • Plank Jacks 20 IC
  • Plank 10 count every guy in group

Take Last ½ Price Coupon to the Bar

Team Turtle Dove pulled out to an early lead in part due to not following the instructions on the sheet. YHC attempted to clear up confusion and the teams were neck and neck. Ultimately Team Turtle Dove stacked the 4th and final ½ priced coupon before Team Tranny Shop but Team Tranny Shop made it back to the starting line as a group first. YHC hadn’t clarified but since I was on Team Tranny Shop, I declare us the winners of round 1.

Originally, YHC intended to conclude the Tranny Shop Relay after one round. However, I had planned on having the PAX do a half murph running to the school and back but given the palpable levels of 2nd F during the first round of relays, I audibled and asked the PAX to circle up again and we counted off to create new teams for a second round of relay races. Ozark (Respect 1,2) led us in a second count off and the teams moseyed to their respective corners. Team Tranny Shop crushed it again this time. Ketchup was bobbing and weaving through an unusual amount of traffic for 6:30am on a Saturday. Undoubtedly, the town folk were coming to see what the loud group of HIMs that couldn’t count were doing downtown.

After the second round, we collected up the ½ priced coupons and headed back to the flags; stopping along the way to hump the monkey and do some dips.

COT

The theme for the workout this morning was “Transitions”.

The world is changing. The pace of change is accelerating. There is a lot all happening at once. The pandemic changed society perhaps forever. There is war ongoing and authoritarianism is ramping up. In rapid change we all need constants to keep a firm foundation. F3 is a perfect constant. Encourage each other to face outward into community to effect positive change, to be role models and help the communities we are part of to navigate change. At the same time, be a support system so men of F3 can turn inward to the PAX for support or assistance when needed. At F3 we will be transitioning from year 3 to 4. The weather is transitioning from cold to warm. As it does, Our PAX will transform in number. Keep encouraging each other. Keep building. On a final note, for those of you who are fathers, our kids are growing up in a world very different than the one we group up in. Help them through change. Teach them to be versatile and resilient. Help them learn new skills. Teach them to never give up and have grit. In a rapidly changing world, they will need these kinds of traits to succeed.
