THE THANG – ST PATTY’S DAY BAG O’LUCK – GRINDER

Circle up and counted out the PAX into 4 groups.  We moseyed around to each station to demonstrate some unfamiliar exercises and explained how the “Bags O’Luck” would determine which exercise to do along with the number of reps for that exercise.  Each station has a camouflaged bag containing 4 different colored tennis balls.  Red, Blue, Green, and Silver.  I emphasized that some people may call the last color Grey, but I emphatically said that it was definitely not Grey, but Silver at our age… which sounds more dignified!  Each station will have a list of exercises and the color of the ball chosen blindly will determine which exercise the group will do.  The plan was for the PAX will run through the grinder 2 times.  Stations 1, 2, and 3 had a different mix of exercises on each side of the Wienke to provide variety between the 1st and 2nd circuits. Unfortunately, we only had time for a single circuit before Omaha was called.

COT:  “Sayings, what do you say and why?”

As St. Patty’s Day comes around each year, I see people online posting their favorite “Irish Quotes”:  You may have heard some of them, like the following:

May the road rise up to meet you.

May the wind be always at your back.

May a rainbow be certain to follow each rain.

May the rain fall softly upon your fields. And the sun shine warm upon your face.

May there always be work for you to do.

May your purse always hold a coin or two.

May the hand of a friend always be near you.

May God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.

May your blessings far outnumber the shamrocks that grow, and may trouble avoid you wherever you go.

And here are some of the funny sayings:

May the wind at your back not be from the cabbage and corned beef that you eat today!

Everyone’s at least a little bit Irish on St. Patrick’s Day.

When Irish eyes are smiling… they are probably up to something.

Sayings, what are they?  Are they just a bunch of words thrown together carelessly?  Or do you think someone took some time to carefully put them together to have deep meaning?  Why do we remember certain sayings?  It’s probably because they trigger an emotion or make an impact on our lives.

F3 has made a huge impact on my life.  Each and every COT has brought up and challenged me to move ahead and #ACCELERATE.  One of the areas of acceleration in my life is the 2nd F.  Just within the last few months, I have had some great, deep, and meaningful conversations with other #HIM during Coff-a-terias.

Over the last month, I heard that some of these same men are dealing with tough things in their lives and are now asking for our prayers.  Somehow those deeper conversations have drawn me closer to those who I am praying for, accelerating my 3rd F.

It is good getting to know other HIM personally; not just through chatting about sports, their jobs, or the weather…  Don’t get me wrong, water-cooler chat isn’t bad, it’s just normal behavior and comfortable.

I am just saying that deep and meaningful Coff-a-teria conversations have allowed me to connect with many HIM on a different level than the guys I work with each day.

We need to accelerate by having meaningful discussions with HIM in F3.  We CAN ask the “deeper” questions.  We CAN mentor others by doing this, but don’t ever think that we are too old to let other HIM mentor us.  My challenge for us this morning is to have “intentional conversations.”    Maybe during that next Coff-a-teria discussion, you’ll find a “Pot of Gold!”

Prayers:  VLASIC’s father – cancer treatment, Patton’s brother’s family- loss of loved family member & friend Christian who is going through cancer treatment.
