5:30 AM- Recited meaning, principles, credo and mission of F3 and gave disclaimer; no FNG’s.

It was YHC’s 38th birthday, so the goal for the day was to complete 38 reps of 38 different exercises for 1,444 total.

Moseyed over to the Basketball court and circled up for WOR:

  • 10 SSH IC
  • 10 Tappy Taps IC
  • 10 Big One’s IC
  • 10 SSH IC
  • 10 Tappy Taps IC

  • 10 Tappy Taps IC
  • 10 Big One’s IC
  • 8 SSH IC
  • 8 Tappy Taps IC
  • 8 Big One’s IC
  • *This way of counting got us through 38 reps of 3 exercises and was used to show the PAX how they could count reps during the Thang.  3 down, 35 to go.*

Pre-Thang- An abbreviated Burpee Mile:

  • 10 Burpees on the BB court
  • Moseyed over behind home plate of the Baseball field for 10 Burpees.  This was done intentionally for our brother Nugent.  He was a catcher and setting up behind the dish was my way to honor him.  As this was my 38th birthday, I would spend much of the beatdown and the rest of the day thinking about him, and that he didn’t get to see his 38th birthday.  RIP brother.
  • Moseyed back to the BB court for 10 Burpees.
  • Moseyed back to the flags for 8 Burpees.
  • *Completed 38 Burpees total.  4/38 done.

The Thang: 3×38 for 11 rounds with a run up the hill in between each round. There were three lights set up at the bottom of the hill.  The PAX were instructed to pick a light and begin the exercises.  They could do sets of 38, 2×19, 20 and 18, or 10-10-10-8 as we counted in WOR.  Each round had one upper body, one lower body, and one core:

  1. Merkins, Air Squats and Big Boys.
    1. Run up hill and back.
  2. Cherry Pickers IC, Bobby Hurley’s, and Heels to Heaven
    1. Run up hill and back.

Announcements/Prayer Requests

COT:

In reflecting on gifts on my birthday, I thought about the many blessings and gifts that God has given me and continues to give me every day.  Sometimes God seems to wink at me and deliver a gift through an unexpected source.  Something that I need at that exact moment.

Recently I was listening to a sports podcast with an interview with Stan Van Gundy.  SVG is a very outspoken person on politics and social issues, and admittedly he sometimes rubs me the wrong way as I tend to appeal to the middle and am a moderate on most things.  I do find him to be funny, interesting, and informative, however.  He shared some advice that he had been given that resonated with me, “Never accept criticism from those you would not accept advice from.”

In my line of work (Athletic Director), I receive much criticism.  Parents, coaches, administrators, teachers, and alumni like to opine about the direction of athletics and decisions around our programs.  It is a source of much stress and frustration in my life and contributes greatly to my panic and anxiety.  I needed to hear this gift.  I will strive to reflect on the source of criticism.  If it is coming from someone that I would not accept advice from, I will do my best to listen respectfully and then simply let it go.  I also will try harder to accept constructive criticism (a weakness for me) from those that have more experience in leadership and decision-making than I do, even if I think they are wrong.  I challenged the PAX to do the same.

I led us out in a prayer of gratitude.

Here’s to good days and better tomorrows!

Cheers and SYITG,

Mother Goose
